[Archive] Fuggit Khan's other model stuff

Abecedar:

very nice again. I suppose it is a different scale to the main ships though

Yep, the aircraft in this model kit series are scaled at roughly 1/87 scale (HO scale). The larger spaceships are 1/1000 scale, and the various table top gaming size ships are a mix of "box scale" (no particular scale, just fits in a standard size box)

I've been busy building and painting like a madman, trying to finish projects on my modeling table before the big move oversea's later this month.
And with that, I finished another Gamilas aircraft from Yamato 2199, the DMB87 space carrier dive bomber:

Launching from the carrier deck

When I first saw these planes on TV as a kid, I instantly loved them, but hated the purple color. But over the years of seeing all the incredibly cool purple paint schemes that people here on CDO have painted their armies, I am now a big fan of purple :)

Not too many parts...a quick and easy build. Painting it took awhile, since all the paints are custom mixed. I've painted it in the personal flight leader markings of Major Berger, a true space pirate if there ever was one. Cranky, cussing, smoking a pipe and mean as nails, he has a fondness for his crew and loves killing his enemies. Cool guy :hat off

Paint work and details on all the wing ordnance

Cockpit details (it's a two-seater)

Undersides...I just LOVE all the weapons on this baby <3

And all done

And I will donate 15 slaves to the first person who can correctly identify which real life plane this Gamilas dive bomber is based on.
This should be super easy

Darkmeer:

Is that the F/A-18 Hornet?

It’s a lovely model regardless. I’m always amazed at how quickly you can get these put together.

Fuggit Khan:

Well, I’m going to up the ante to 25 slaves since it appears to be a bit more difficult than I originally thought

Is that the F/A-18 Hornet?

Darkmeer
A good guess (and I can definitely see some similarities to the F/A-18).

Some clues:

Inverted gull wings

WW2 Dive bomber

Big oil radiator under the front fuselage

Darkmeer:

Okay, I’m going to stick with a combination of my original guess and smash it into a Junkers 87-B Stuka.

That’s an odd combination, but it fits the tailfin and the front edge a bit better, and it meets your clues a bit better.

Fuggit Khan:

a Junkers 87-B Stuka.

Darkmeer
Bingo!
25 slaves to you my friend :hat off

Darkmeer:

Thank you, Fuggit!

It Looking at both jets together, I really do think that they smashed the two together. There are too many elements from both that just drag together too seamlessly to not be the case to me, but that’s my thinking. I really had to think about that, and it took all your clues to come to that conclusion. Without it I would have been stuck where I was.
