[Archive] German Players forum?

Skink:

So, I am currently living in Bad Honnef, Germany (near Bonn). I’m wondering if any of our many German users can direct me towards a national Warhammer community forum or website? I finally painted an army, and wouldn’t mind to play a couple of games with it. I haven’t actually checked if there’s a GW in Bonn (will do). I know there is one in Cologne, but it’s one and a half hours away from here…

Ah, I DON’T SPEAK GERMAN (I’m learning, but definitely my poor knowledge of the language is not going to get me through a game of Warhammer)!!!

PhilmacFLy:

Well a German player forum would be www.tabletopwelt.de but most threads are ofc in German. But Im pretty sure if you post something in English on there they will help you just as much.

Except from that the Games Workshop in Bonn is in the KasernenstraYe 8.

Onyx:

Very nice town, Bad Honnef!

I visit a customer there about three times a year.

Cologne, Bonn and Düsseldorf used to be German Warhammer strongholds with active clubs and lots of great gamers. With Games Day in Cologne (Gürzenich) and GW headquarters in Düsseldorf along with lots of tournaments - very unsurprising.

Sadly this (at least to me) no longer seems to be the case. Even the national team seems to only be playing online hammer now.

I’d also suggest tabletopwelt.de - ask for clubs there. Also watch out for tournaments on Warhammer Fantasy Battles - Tournament Overview | T³ - TableTop Tournaments - Germany

Skink:

Thank you guys! I’m definitely goingt to check GW Bonn out (especially because I need me some new paints)!

…You say that the Games Day is held in Cologne? Good to know. Maybe for the fist time in my life I’ll actually be able to attend the event.

Onyx:

WAS held in Cologne. As fas as I know it is canceled forever (too expensive).

Ah. Well, better luck next time :)!

TheHoodedMan:

Many German users? Where are they?
(Herby)

I know there are some German readers who are also active at tabletopwelt but obviously not everyone posts a lot here ;). Maybe not everybody is as confident as you in english writing.

edit: I am from southern Germany, approx. 4 hours drive from Bad Honnef;

TheHoodedMan:

I was active at tabletopwelt.de but I went away from there.
And I don't want to offend you but the community there wasn't as nice and sociable as here at CDO.

CDO man! That's the place to be.
You didn`t offend me :cheers.
You are absolutely right. Being on cdo is like sitting in front of a warm fireplace ;).
But tabletopwelt.de is still a useful resource especially for non-chaos dwarf players (yes, there are some ;), pity fellows).

Lazerus:

I also like the CDO forum, all here are so helpful

I use tabletopwelt.de as a information board for the german tabletop and the restrictions for the tournaments.

If you play CD the best forum is here

You get all the information and can buy very nice Armys

Fully agree with that! CDO rocks :hat! I am just trying to get in touch with the German gaming community. I suppose I'll be going to GW Bonn this week-end to check the shop out. Would really love to get back into the gaming side of the hobby after more than a decade of inactivity.

Onyx:

Yet again grandfather Onyx shall reveal tales from the past:

At the dawn of highly competitive warhammer in Germany around the millenium an Inner Circle of tournament gamers was forged that consisted of perhaps 50 players, all of which would play 10 tournaments a year or more. At each and every large tournament you’d meet almost all of those same guys, some of which were very sociable and a few others the exact opposite. Almost brotherly friendships came to be - and so did bitter enmities.

At the same time tabletopwelt.de was introduced and naturally most of those gamers were very active there as well.

Now it was a custom to call top notch players at tournaments names like ‘Powergamer’, ‘Rulebook Fetishist’, ‘Rule F§$/"er’ or even ‘Tournament Nazi’ to their faces. However those names could mean anything from exactly that to - ‘I accept you as a great player’ or ‘Hey buddy, how do you do? I’m looking forward to partying with you tonight.’. This depended on your relationship to said other player. It mostly meant the latter, but not always.

This lingo was transported to Tabletopwelt.de. However for an outsider context and subtext are missing from forum entries. Thus this place seems much harsher than it actually is. He who does not know you will treat you with respect!

TheHoodedMan:

I was just trying to get in touch with the German gaming community.
Thats clearly possible at tabletopwelt.de. Give it a try ;).

Sad really... most of the best Golden Demon entries ever were to be viewed at GD Köln (or Paris for that matter). It wasn't so much a GamesDay as it was a tribute to outstanding hobbyism.
