Check out their response as well, made me chuckle.
A response to GW C&D to Blight Wheel Miniatures | Gaming Expat
The interesting discussion on this, directly related to the ongoing chapterhouse studios issue is the IP/copyright dispute crossing over from one medium to the next. From 2D drawing to 3D model. The jury is still out on that one afaik.
Fuggit Khan:
Wow…love GW response: “swords in the riders hands”, “hoofs that are horse shaped hoofs”, “…horses in the same proportions”, etc. Heaven forbid somebody should model an accurately proportioned horse with “horse shaped hoofs” or that its rider model has a sword in its hand.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry
Blackspine:
It is getting absurd.
there’s amazing concept art out there, almost infinite. How many people have sculpts for them? A very small minority.
Not only that, but GW doesn’t own the IP on ‘lizards’ be they ‘space lizards’ or ‘earth lizards’. We all recall the fanfare and ridicule they got for claiming "space marines’ as their IP.
Marines
in
space.
kind of a staple of the sci-fi world for some bit. (see; starship troopers the literary work)
aaaa good times.

The second link is the response of the company that GW is trying to stop. It’s their tongue in cheek reply.
cornixt:
I love how GW point out things that do appear to be infringing, and then add a load of things that are nonsense. The lizard model is in the same pose as a lizard picture? Only in that they are on fours legs like a lizard!
The gun-belt and brain implant are far too similar to be coincidental though. If those bits were different in some way then GW wouldn’t have had a case, even with the unconventional placing of the gun.
Grimbold Blackhammer:
I think GW goes too far in a lot of cases but I can see their argument on this one. If I didn’t know better, I’d say the one was based upon the other. They are very, very similar.

Whoops, I was typing faster than my brain was functioning...I meant to say I love their reply
to GW...and yes, it's funny as hell. And while I have to say that GW may have a valid argument (this time), it still makes me want to cry that so many talented artists/modelers/cottage industries get shut down and the loss of that respective creativity...and at what point does IP legality get in the way of the hobby growing?

I agree with Grim on this one. I'd never seen either before today but looking at the artwork and then the model I'd say that one was a representation of the other.
However this has also served to bring Blightwheel miniatures to my attention and they have some really nice stuff, especially that Mecha thing :)
Cheers

I had a laugh. Nice stuff.
Their legal department really doesn’t do any sort of proof-reading, it’s really funny.
