in britan all the GW staff talk to you for end less hour i think they have a might deamon in the back of the store and they feed it with peoples bordum or there free time does it happen any where apart from britan?

I know what your talking about. The thing that gets to me is the never ending sales pitch.

I worked for GW for a few months, and instead of trying to sell things to Veteran gamers, I would simply convince them how cool stuff is, or how to make an awesome conversion. My Chaos Dwarfs were on display, so I had some respect as a Hobbyist. So I’d ask people how their armies are going, and if they had any cool ideas. If they did, I would get them to talk about it. Get them excited in what they are doing! It was good because I could offer help if they didn’t feel they had enough modeling skill. So instead of just being a pusher, I was a facilitator, which is nice. I gave small tutorials in using GS, and the like. I had a good 3 months, it was definitely a fun job while it lasted. Since I left there, I have been working at my present job for a year, it too has been nice, providing me with time to browse the forum and improve CDO. My new job that I start on June 2nd will not provide me the same luxury. I am starting a job as a Junior Programmer! (Yay!) I am super excited about it, as it is my field of interest!

well congratulations on the new job Xander! Don’t get me wrong there are some good staffers about but a lot of them share responsibility for the negative image of the hobby

It’s like that all over England. However, personally I just say I have CDs, and how many points of other armies I have, tell them I’m either browsing or what I’m looking for and they get scared because I’m the one boring them or because they realise I know more than they do.

i’ve made a scenario tell what happen to me every time i walk into a GW store
it start’s with me at the till(counter)and i’ve just handed the person a £20 for a £6 blister of a goblin warboss
staff “oh you collect goblin do you i remember the time…”
me thinking “oh god he started again what shell i do i can make a run for it while his back’s turned damn but i need that £14 oh no he’s looking at me better nod in agreement” nod’s
staff “any way the blood angles…”
me thinking “what when did he start talking about that wait he’s getting the money out damn he stopped blasted i’ve been staring at his money filled hand for age’s better say somethingtalking oh i was um looking at the um leaflet under your hand”
staff “ah yes the campaign…”
me thinking “damn he’s starting again that’s it i can’t take it”
i run screaming out of the shop with out my change.

It depends when you go. In the quiet times (school days usually) they can chat with you for ages. I used to talk to them while waiting for the bus, since my bus stop was right outside.

I mostly find the staff at GW oslo very helpfull and I like speaking with them. And I have proof that not all GW staff try to make you buy all the time: When I was sitting and painting in the shop in february, a young boy which collected high elves was there to get some reinforcments for his army. The boy said that he thought the new dragon was cool and the employee agreed. HERE IT COMES: -Have you painted the stuff you already have? I was really suprised. The employee showed the boy a few paint pots who is great for high elves and told him that he should buy them instead. And so did the boy.

Me and my friends frequented this one store so frequently that we were well known and friends with the staff (getting lunch and stuff) and so we never got the sales pitch because we always bought a ton of stuff anyways…plus my crew did stuff like Xander did with the vets to get them piqued rather than straight out selling. (except for ork guy)

The GW store here is so bad, anyone could do it better. The layout is a mess, the location terrible, the owner is so cheap that he waits until x amount of items are ordered before he actually runs it through (so it can take 3 weeks to get in a figure) and the prices are, well, I guess regular. But you can get it faster, with better service, and much cheaper online. I don’t know what this guys business angle is, but I wish someone with a moderate amount of business savvy would take his GW contract.

Well, from Michigan, I don’t get down to the GW stores in Detroit unless I’m off to visit my sister. But I have never gotten a hard sale there, mainly because I am older (unfortunately) and I do tend to buy a lot whenever I am there.

I just wish more of them would (because I have gotten the hard sale 5 years ago.)

i’m not complaining about it, it’s quite nice talking to then because they give you tip’s and are really nice guy’s (gal’s) and because most are young they talk better and they have real connection’s with the buyer’s :hat off

Usually there are a few ‘locals’ which spend all there time in there, and they know practically everyone there by name. They can even remember mine, and i only go there roughly once a month! I’m known by the ‘locals’ as the ‘sculpting kid’, and they all seem to be really intrested in my stuff, especially my CDs and my LM!

I’ve overheard some painfully funny sales pitches in GW stores (not to me though), and generally I avoid going in them.
