[Archive] GW UK passes on VAT cut...almost

Grimstonefire:

Just noticed that GW has passed on the 2.5% VAT cut. Anyone know if they did this recently? An £18 regiment should now cost £17.55 and now costs £17.60??

So the first reduction in GW prices we’ve seen since… well ever I think?

Makes me laugh that they haven’t just passed on the full cut. It doesn’t affect their profits in any way whatsoever. Obviously they don’t want their staff handling 5 pence’s. Must be dangerous for their health or something :stuck_out_tongue:

Godbob and his jolly rogers:

It was to make it easier, but I thought they rounded it to the nearest 5p, seems not.

Hashut’s Blessing:

I knew nothing of this. Shame it’s such a small cut, but it;s less money to the government and more money for us :stuck_out_tongue:

Kera foehunter:

like i belive that hb!!! wow with the falling of oil prices! they should be lowing more ha HA

IF THEY USE THE SAME EXP. FOR RAISING THE PRICES

Well, you won't get a full 2.5% lowering of the price. It has to do with the way VAT is calculated. A 2.5% off VAT won't lower to the final price 2.5%, it will be a bit less, I think GW said 2.13%. They actually had a notice about it even including a mention of it not being a full 2.5%, I guess they realised people would think they were trying to trick them otherwise.
So they aren't actually doing it wrong, it just looks that way to the uninitiated. Its is a common misconception I've run across before. It's not quite as easy to calculate with the VAT as people seem to think.

cornixt:

Using actual maths:

(18/1.175)1.15 = 17.62

(price removing 17.5%VAT)
adding 15% VAT = new price.

So GW get 2p less profit per box.

Hashut’s Blessing:

snowblizz, I’d assumed that was the case.

Kera, I meant I didn’t know that GW was dropping prices.

Still, good they’re losing a tuppence profut per box. :stuck_out_tongue: In a sense.
