[Archive] Help with Corel Painter X

Dino:

Right now i’m in a class that uses Corel Painter X painting program. I’m having trouble using as it’s litterly the first painting program i’ve used other then Microsoft Paint(that ain’t saying much). If you guys have any suggestions(books, links, personal experience) it would really help me.

GRNDL:

Its been a long time since I’ve used any of the Painter series (about 4 years) so I’m not sure how useful these links will be for you.

If you are looking for relatively basic tips, you can look up Photoshop tutorials as well. While there are fundamental differences between Photoshop and Painter, a lot of the techniques translate across them as well.

Personally, for most CG painting, I prefer Photoshop - its faster and simpler to get results. Painter is amazing for its ability to recreate real world media - I used it almost exclusively for its oil and acrylic paint media brushes and had a lot of fun with it, but it was a chore to handle, however, when I got my hands on Painter, I had been using Photoshop for something like ten years, so old habits die hard.

Good luck!!
