Aron:
Hi,
i need some help for my army banner.
My idea is to base the design on this one:
http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image%3AGWItaliaCDBanner.jpg

I would like to put a heraldic motto or a something like a spell on the empty name plate.
Does anyone have any idea what I could put on there?
Thanks a lot :hat off

Kamphre:
Why do you give such temptations to Admiral ?
Admiral, you’re so productive !!!
Aron:
Thanks a lot. That gave me a lot of ideas.
Have a great day everyone.
Abecedar:
I’d go with “Brakes are for Elves”
Aron:
Thanks. I went with “Strength & Cruelty” and since I find it a bit boring to use English I first thought to use “vi et crudelitate” instead.
Then after thinking about that one I found that Latin quotes would be more something I would expect for Bretonnians but not Chaos Dwarfs.
After a bit of research I found out that Assyrian (CD’s are wearing Assyrian-style armor and beards) is a dialect of Akkadian, an extinct Semitic language that was spoken in ancient Mesopotamia.
I found a dictionary online and decided to go with stɹ><θ >n kruːTltɪ (Strength & Cruelty in Akkadian).
Thanks again for the input.
Admiral:
@Kamphre: Thanks!
@Aron: Good choice, though stɹ><θ >n kruːTltɪ are the English phonetics.
Here are the Akkadian approximations, from Glosbe. I’ve written out their meanings since it’s a hassle to check all on the website itself, and also pasted in simple Babylonian cuneiform translations from this page:

I’d suggest dāmu u kasû as a near-enough translation for strength and cruelty. Literal meaning: Blood and cold.
Other suitable words signifying strength in this case would be mādu = many (as in many heads, many warriors in the army); kabtu = heavy (always appropriate for Chaos Dwarfs!) and labiānu or kišādu = neck (as in muscular neck, strong body). But dāmu = blood, and is a component of this word:

Which seems to be where you’re aiming for.
Also, older types of cuneiform was poor at word-dividing if it occurred at all, so let’s borrow a sign from Old Persian Cuneiform, a simple slash as seen below along with an example of how it’s used:

This is not an exact translation by someone who has studied Akkadian and its sibling languages, just a quick online amateur check. You could write your motto in cuneiform:

Or in Dark Tongue script!
Good luck.

Why do you give such temptations to Admiral ? ;P

Kamphre
Idle hands are not part of Admiral's philosophy (thankfully for all of us!)
:hat off
I'd go with "Brakes are for Elves"
Abecedar

So sayeth the man from the land that giveth us Mad Max Fury Road :mask
And this entire post is really been good reading, complete with cool banner designs and the wonderfully detailed information about ancient writings.
