so i made this list in order to test the chalice *as you cant get a prophet and a chalice in ETC, but also because (conviniently) like many others here i want to try a heroes only list.
would really appreciate some feedback on this.
thanks in advance!:hat off

Hi, where do your heroes go?

I do not know ETC restrictions by heart, but I would remove the Wolf riders (never tested them, but animosity+low Ld+being far from Gral…) and one unit of 20xhobbos and add 3 BC`s with GW to help your K’daais with the killing. I know you would be deploying 2 less units, but I think you really need more CC power, as once the enemy is engaged, only K’daais will bring some hitting, and every turn that passes by, K’daais will fall, and you will be missing each of them horribly imo. Afaik Iron daemon only hits hard on the charge? It will hold forever, but again I would add another killing unit.

If you could I would also put a lance on the Khan, given he’s light cav. he should be able to flank or even rear charge in the 2nd turn, and giving him +1 Str on the charge can make small units flee due to combat res (yesterday mine made flee a unit of 3 ogres thanks to a flank charge + 1 wound in turn 2 of combat!).

Other than that please make some bat reps to let us know how a hero only list works, I am very keen on this idea.

Regards.

Javi

The Khan isn't light cav, only wolf raiders get that special rule. Possibly an oversight but it's not in the book.

With your list you'll struggle to have all your units within 12" of the BSB and general, which will be a big problem in combat, you'd be better off with two big units of 35 either side of the Infernal Guard(with bows is nice). Although I do use Wolf Raiders and normally find them very good they can let you down sometimes.

I also think you could drop the second level on one of your Daemonsmiths it's probably not going to be worth the points.

javi:

I am not 100% certain, but I think all giant wolfs have light cav. special rule, although it is not listed in Tamurkhan. Actually it was my opponent who advised me so, and iirc I have also read it in CDO.

Even if it's mentioned elsewhere(maybe in Orcs & Goblins army book) your army book would take precedence and Tamurkhan lists no special rules for a great wolf, only its statline. It wasn't in the FAQ either as far as I can remember but I may be wrong.

Samanos:

leadership can be an issue, but the only change i can see making is dropping the simple hobbos and use the points to beef up the infernals.

i have some units which i dont care if they are within the generals ld or not like iron demon and fireborn.

i’ll disagree about the the lvl 2, i would not bother with chalice if i was to use just a fireball and a spirit leech.

khan is not fast cav unfortunately.

will play a few battles with them to see what works, what not and what could change.

any further comments always appreciated!

MLP:

The thing with the Chalice is it’s great if you have low magic levels and they have high, because it’ll hardly affect you compared to them.

I only meant to drop one daemonsmith to level 1, with the first level 2 you are paying for the +2 to cast/dispel and an extra spell but with the second level two you’re only paying for an extra spell(unless one dies early I suppose) and you’re not garunteed to get a useful spell.

Your leadership problem shouldn’t be too bad but you’ll have to keep a straight battleline around your Infernals with BSB. Small units of Hobbos will break straight away in combat outside the bubble, even a moderately effective round of shooting can send them flying! And don’t forget animosity outside of 6".

I can’t help thinking that you wouldn’t be better dropping some of the hobbos in favour of another block of Infernals. Maybe drop 40 hobgobs and one Fireborn(they come in packs of three anyway so you don’t want seven hey?) for a unit of 20? Depends on your available models really, I wouldn’t want to use 70 hobgoblins unless I already had them painted!

Samanos:

models are not my concern right now as im currently saving enough to buy minis to convert my LoA army.

i play battles online at universal battle though to see what works.

not really sure how 20 infernals would help out. i’d have to fit in a crown of command otherwise i think they would propably break. they are not good enough to win the combat and not enough bodies to be steadfast. perhaps you could explain your reason for suggesting them?

MLP:

Mainly because in 2400 points, two units of 20 hobbos in combat against almost any other unit whereas a unit of 20 Infernals will last a lot longer and likely do more damage. With their Leadership they’re not likely to break without a good smashing! Especially compared to Hobbos!

Samanos:

ah i see what you mean.

dont know if you noticed but the 2 units of 20 have bows (bogen) to deal with chaff. otherwise there is no way i’d just throw two 20s of hobbos.

Discoking:

Drop 1 Fireborn.

Beef up the Infernals.

Samanos
I did suspect they were bows but wasn't sure! The only thing i'd consider is that they will most likely end up in combat at some point, I like to run them with bows, shields and full command in a horde of 30. I find it a pretty effective unit next to your Infernals with BSB and General. This way they can pump out lots of shooting and hold well in combat(occasionally win!)

So for your list why not two units of 30 with bows and shield. It should be the same price as before(ish) but with more bowshots and better combat ability. You're losing an extra unit but like I said before it'll probably be out on its own anyway so not that effective.

with the suggestions the new list looks like this.

will try to make one for unrestricted 2500 as well.

the reason i went with more infernals instead of hobbos is that in ETC you cannot have more than 45 missile troopers with range of 20+ (so unfortunatley MLP i cant field 2x30 hoobos with bows:mad) and instead of having units that dies easily i decide to give these guys a better look.

any other thoughts for this one?

MLP:

I don’t like these ETC rules, they’re far too restrictive! I like this new list though, a lot more streamlined than the first I think. How do you plan on using the list in battle?
