[Archive] Heroic Hobgoblin Khan

Helblindi:

Hi,

This won’t be a full scale bat rep, as I haven’t been making any notes, but I had to report the heroics of my little Hobgob Khan.

We were playing a 2000 pts game of CD versus Daemons of Chaos. It was my first game as CD player, so I was quite excited.

My list - 2000 pts

Sorcerer Prophet on foot, in my IG block: Lvl 4 Lore of Hashut, Mask ot Furnace - 365

BSB: shield, vanilla banner - 132

Daemonsmith: lvl 2 LoHashut, Dagger of Malice - 155

2xHobgoblin Khan on Wolf: Light Armour, Spear - 2x58

20 IG: Hw and Shield, FC, Banner of Slavery - 307

20 Hobgob Archers: FC - 122

30 Hobgob: additional weapons, FC - 157

12 IG: Fireglaives, FC - 236

3 Bull Centaurs: FC, GW, War Banner - 210

2x Death Shrieker - 2x100

His list (I don’t know what goes in special or rare, so I won’t put em by category. Nor do I know the points for each)

Lord of Change

10 Plague Bearers, FC

20 Bloodletters, FC

10 Pink Horrors

Flamer Chariot

3 Flamers of Tzeentch

3 Bloodcrushers

Soulgrinder of Tzeentch

We rolled for the watchtower-scenario, which I then forgot for half the game, resulting in a fairly uncontested control of the watchtower for my opponent.

Anyway, my right flank started out fairly unprotected. My IG block went right in front of the watchtower, with only my archers to the right, and a Deathshrieker on the far right. So my opponent chose to put his Bloodcrushers opposite my archers.

Trying to stall him, I threw a Khan in front of him during turn 1, to redirect and/or slow him down. He killed it, but the gobbo managed to put a wound on the crushers.

Turn 2, I charged the other Khan into the flank of the crushers, thinking his sacrifice might hopefully be postponed until his turn, further slowing him down. Instead, the Gobbo put a wound on the crushers, and so did his wolf mount, taking just one wound in return. He then rolled a bit unlucky for his Ld test and poof, the whole unit was gone!

I will pray to Hashut to promote this gobbo to a bull centaur

Sorry for the shabby report thread, but I had to celebrate my Goblin Khan who singlehandedly slayed a unit of Bloodcrushers!

Abecedar:

Love hearing of small scale heroics. little things like that make games unpredictable and fun

Bloodbeard:

Yes! His name will be in song and he’ll be praised - untill stabbed in the back by jealous rivals.

You can’t take lore of hashut on daemonsmiths, only fire, metal and death.

We never play watchtower, it’s just bad.

Helblindi:

Aha, thank you for bringing that up, must’ve overlooked it.
Yes, I ought to give him a name now, so it can be sung

ThorAxe:

I always find it is the Khans who pull off the heroics. My castellan never seems to die, and will occasionally perform a decent feat, but nothing compared to a khan charging and running down an ironblaster or charging and winning against the same (tzeentch) warriors unit multiple times in the same game. Maybe its because it is funnier and easier to remember something so absurd

And sung he is! Thanks a lot, this is awesome!

Apologies for necromancy, but I just read this and my work day doesn't suck anymore, thank you!!!!!

Rettile:

yes we khan

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

Helblindi:

Hey all, sorry for threadomancy, but I figured its better than starting a new thread, and it is again partially about goblin heroics.

Just finished a 3000 pts game vs Daemons. One thing went awesome, one thing was terrible and entirely my own stupid fault, so I will have to boil some bodyparts in lava later today.

I had a block of 20 hobgob archers which I deployed right in front of a watchtower. Turn one, they garrisoned it. I had zero expectations for these guys, but then they managed to keep 3 plague drones busy for like three turns before they finally fled (banner of slavery was nearby). Plus, they got 3 or 4 turns of shooting, plus 3 stand and shoots, and in total put about 4 wounds on the plague drones and 3 on a nearby Seeker Chariot, and they killed 4 Daemonettes on turn one. They definitely earned their points, and so shall receive dinner tonight.

Less impressive was the commander in charge… It was my first time using a K’Daai Destroyer, and I was pretty happy with how it performed. But I didn’t use it too well. Here’s how disaster unfolded:

I had a block of 30 cutthroats with additional handweapons. They, too, were near the banner of slavery, and were charged head-on by three Bloodcrushers, and in the flank by a unit of Daemonettes (the 6 that survived the hobgob arrows  ). They had a 6++ regen from earlier Flamer fire, and so they survived marvellously well against their foes, they even retained a rank and so were steadfast. So I figured, next turn: Why don’t I charge my Destroyer into the fray? Only problem was he could only charge the Bloodcrushers, not the Daemonettes.

– As I type this, I realise now that this wasn’t my mistake at all. The Destroyer had frenzy, I had no choice in the matter. Man, I feel way better now :)–

Alas, the Destroyer couldn’t do any Stomps against the Blood Crushers, and just that turn, the Hobgobs decided to get slaughtered, leaving only the champion standing. The champ fled, and the Destroyer annihilated itself in CR. And then I lost a few turns later. This was a deciding moment. So sad, but hey, wasn’t my fault then

Abecedar:

Love the song. I think my singing voice would suit it perfectly.

Helblindi:

Great, go for it!

You can always test LD to not charge, unless you're playing a older edition.

My own little heroics is more small-scale but in my second game ever which was against High Elves I had a Khan kill a Bolt Thrower before rear-charging a giant block of Sea Guard to hold them up for a turn. Sea Guard contained a High Elf Noble with Great Weapon who MAde Way to the back to deal with my uppity Khan.
Khan murders the noble with no fucks given and even hold out for the critical one round before fleeing.

Little bastard even survived the battle (mostly because I forgot about him after that).
Killing a Noble in single combat was pretty impressive, I have high hopes for his future.
