ive been doing a few heroes for heroquest as we are playing it as a family game, and I also like to paint random 1 off models to break up the monotomy of doing wargaming armies. Ive been doing chaos dwarfs and wood elves all year a break makes a big difference. I also love heroquest.
The first is a dark moon minis atlantian. I dont think he is available anymore. I had to cut him off his big metal original base with his feet and sculpt him new ones.
The second is a heresy miniature elf in autumn camo for my foster sister sophie (11)
the third is a scibor female dwarf for my foster sister alex (9)
they really seem to be getting into the game, and enjoying it. My brother is a pretty good dungeon master and keeps them interested.
Ive been working using white undercoats for these as i usually go for black. Up next I have the evil sorcerer model to repaint.
Nice, especially the Atlantian! Good colour and miniature choices. Playing Heroquest as a family game is a great idea. I’ve had slightly similar plans for Dreadfleet, though it will have to wait until I have a fully painted army to bring to tournaments. Taking breaks from your ordinary army/ies is really necessary to keep the steam up.
yeah i think its a great way to get family into miniature games. Heroquest was my introduction and it is great to share that with the next generation.
The rules for the atlantian can be found on oldscratch heroquest forum. He is 5/5 so pretty weak, but has 6 spells. Offers some variety. most homebrew characters weve tried are pretty samey to what else is there.
ive just done the heroquest evil wizard. Im going through my brothers set bit by bit, trying to get the unpainted stuff painted, then I will work on getting the badly painted stuff re-done
I’ve been reinvigorating the HQ rules for the games with my kids. Sometime soon I should have a decent enough version I can put out. It’s fun painting things that are completely different. I see you have the classic Skeletor paint scheme for the Sorcerer
I’ve also had some great hours with my oldest 7 and 8 year old children and Heroquest. One of the very few games translated to danish. This is great, as it allows them to read the character texts and I can read the stories beforw missions.
Unfortunately the expansipns wasn’t translated.
Heroquest was my entry to RPGs, warhammer and LARP - played with my Father when I was that age.
I would love to see your alyernative rules Cornixt.
cornixt - yeah I just looked at him and though, why have I never over the last 20 years of owning this game not paintedthe evil sorcerer as skeletor. I would love to see your updated stuff when done. To be honest my brother is making little changes here and there that is keeping the game pretty interesting.
Bloodbeard - the striped bases are just to showoff that these models are characters. You wouldnt do it in a wargaming army but for a one off it sort of adds a bit more to the model, makes them stand out.
heroquest was also my entry game to miniature games, although I had painted model kits before this. Completely changed my life, and to this day I still think it is the best dungeon crawler boardgame.
