I have had some ideas for hobgoblins and I just wanted to run them by you.
i was thinking i using basically goblin wold rider bits to construct these hobgoblin regiments. The heads have Mongolian looking helmets,
the torsos are like fur torsos, and the legs somewhat match the torsos. and for the shields, I don’t know whether to use marauder shields or their leather looking shields and wood shields.
I did read the story about them and they are like Mongolian themed,
so i feel these bits are perfect for making these hobgoblins.<br> however I don’t know what weapons to use and i read that they are taller then regular goblins, so would just cutting them from the ankles and extending a few milimeters of green stuff do it? also around the neck area?
I use the blood bowl hobgoblins (not for wolf riders thought) and add bows - kind of funny looking on a battlefield with a gridiron helmet but remember they are only hobgoblins and would only get scraps from the loot of a defeated enemy
There are a few mongolian style heads in the regular goblin set too, make sure to add those for extra details. Chop some heads an add the helmets to a few gretchen head for even more diversity. Change out some spikes with other spikes or horns.
Wan’t to go taller than goblins. Use flaggelants from the empire, they look like slaves. To not so much warriors, should be easy enough to add some fur though.
From all the lore i’ve been reading, the chaos dwarfs treat the hobgoblins pretty nicely, and the ally themselves with the local Khans which work as the chaos dwarfs slavers and such, so it would be cool to see a hobgoblin regiment that looks pretty well armed while also maintaining their traditional look. I figure they trade slaves for armament and shields and etc. So a well equipped/ Mongolian looking regiment would look quite appealing on the battlefield!
Also in response to Blood beard, are these heads found in the goblin regiment box set?

Aye, those look great. Another well known recipe is Skaven Plague Monks bodies with Gretchin Heads and my favourite, Clanrats bodies with Night Goblin head.

Thank you everyone for the sources!
I just have to say that these hobgoblin models look amazing!
now my problem seems to be which route to go! aha
I love the storm vermin bodies though! they look awesome! I just have to see which is better, goblin, gnoblar or gretchin heads! haha
also, are the stormvermin hands armored? as in do they have gauntlets? because I could use those arms for my chaos dwarfs as well.
Last but not least, those night goblin conversions with the green stuff, are so beautifully done and perfectly executed! exactly how i imagined a hobgoblin regiment to be! Amazing!

I'd advise you not to get stormvermin arms for dwarves; the skaven are lean, skinny, gnarly. This makes them unsuited for sturdy, stubby dwarves, in my opinion.
I picked stormvermin bodies with goblin and gretchen heads and ungor arms. You can see them in my blogs (and avatar!)

Do you know what arms would suffice for chaos dwarves then? Im looking for armored looking arms ahaha
and ungor arms for the hobgoblins for the same reason right? because the goblin arms are to small for the stormvermin bodies?

You can use goblin arms, others have done so. There's two reasons I didn't use them. First, the goblin set is very, very old and the detail and posing just isn't that great on the arms and weapons, in my opinion. Second, I wanted different weapons; the goblin's spears are too short so I'd have to lengthen them. Also, I simply wanted to get away from using too many bits from one kit, to help turn the kit-bash into "new" models. The ungor weapons also have something a little bit more... "chaotic", evil, spikey going on with them, which I like. Does that still add up to two reasons? :yar
As for dwarf arms... I don't know really. I'm pretty picky myself so I think I'd have to conclude that there are no suitable arms if you want them to be armoured. You want your dwarf to look like a dwarf, not like a human with short legs, for example. It's subtle differences in proportions that make a model look right or not.
Have you considered Titan Wargames' dwarves? I really like them and they're not too expensive (being metal) and you support a fellow CDO member ;) Check out the link to my blog in my signature if you want to see some examples of them.
You can also have a look at Mantic Games' Abyssal Dwarfs, see if they float your boat. They should be getting some new releases fairly soon, I think. They've remade one of their abyssal dwarf units in resin/plastic instead of metal bits, but I don't think they've been released yet. This should make them even more affordable and more pleasant to work with. My first attempt at a Chaos Dwarf army was made using Mantic's regular dwarves, which I converted. You can see these in my old Manticlicious Chaos Dwarves blog, which is also in my signature.

JMR, You are amazing!
Those dwarfs look absolutely awesome!!!!
i seriously just fell in love as soon as i visited the website!!!
it seems i will be supporting a CDO member afterall! :hat off
As for the hobgoblin regiment, i understand what you mean about the box set looking very outdated and cartoonist!
and ill take you advice on the ugnor weapons and arms!
i have checked out the mantic games chaos dwarfs but i really didnt like them that much :|
also do you happen to own any of the Russian alternative chaos dwarfs? i really really like their blunderbuss squads and some of the models in their chaos dwarf warrior box set as well.
ive been searching and i found some websits with really really awesome chaos dwarf warlords but i forgot their names, if you know any id be very greatful to have them!:P:hat off;P
Fro Dwarf arms, think about something like Chaos knight arms, or maybe the old school CW plastics, though those aren’t exactly available anymore. You could possibly also take advantage of other Chaos Warrior types like the Avatars of War Apocalyptic range.
Technically speaking they’d be slightly oversized but that helps with the blocky-dwarf appearance. But YMMV.
I think the stormvermin bodies and Gnoblar heads variant looks awesome. The only problem I have with them is that they have Heavy Armour. In the Tamurkhan it says that the gobos are Light armoured and fluff wise that the Chaos Dwarfs don’t equip them and rather let them search stuff on the battlefield or from themself. Thats why I think the Clanrats bodies with Nightgoblin heads are the more suitable Varaint fluffwise, and most likely the one Ill go with

*Snowblizz: i did check out the AoW models and they actually come in pieces which is awesome because i basically get everything i need from one box! but the only ones that are available at the moment seem to be the nurgle themed warriors |

The build certainly look appealing, however i think i prefer the gretchin heads they seem to have more personality! lol
and as for the armor it does seem a little extra armorish but id like to think of them as actualy hobgoblin allies rather than the hobgoblin slaves :)
Avatar of War’s Warriors or Games Workshop’s Knights would be way, way too big for dwarves. You can -maybe- get away with using their torso’s, but their arms are out of the question, in my experience and humble opinion
Of course, they’re your models and you should do what you like the most

oh nevermind then, I dont want them to be disproportioned chaos dwarfs either (x abaha
