[Archive] Hobgoblin Model Info

Loidrial:

Simple question, talking about the original hobs :idea

There are 3 models on foot, warrior, archer and gits.

Wich one do you ppl prefer? and how do you play it?

I was thinking to buy the archers for use them for everything, even because usually when played, hobs have bows.

Whato do you think about the 3? And wich one do you think has more value?

Plus same question for wolfrider, warrior or archer models in your opinion?

Wich one is more “necessary” to have?

Cheers from Italy :cheers

Zanthrax:

Oglah khan wolf boys for me for cavalry.

I have found the blood bowl hobgoblins are fairly priced compared to the other hobgoblin minis so have used them as my archers.

Skink:

As a person who painted 80 Hobgoblins (including 3 wolfriders) I can tell you… They are ALL amazing miniatures under ANY aspect. These models were sculpted 25 years ago but they are so actual! Let me explain myself better:

-Model variety. There are so many Hobgoblin sculpts that whilst painting them you’ll discover all sort of little particulars that at first you hadn’t noticed. Some Hobbos have earrings, some have stitches on their hats, some are missing buttons on their tunic (and their belly is visible underneath :)). Some have armors, others have longer hairs, some are roaring, one is stiking out its tongue! You’ll love collecting and painting them, and you’ll even find yourself looking at your unit in awe for a long time.

-Easy to convert. Hell yeah, look at all the awesome blogs on this forum. you can simply snip a hand (and thanks to the bandages on the wrists none will notice) and replace it with something else. Or create wolfriders out of regular Hobbos. It’s up to you.

-A joy to paint. Other than having a lot of variety, Hobgoblins are well sculpted (and surprisingly so, for such old models). Honestly, they look like something produced yesterday, and not two decades ago. You’ll be able to tell instantly what is what, and the only fiddly parts are the hairs, which for most of the time can be painted like armor really. The good thing is that you’ll have plenty of flat surfaces like tunics & hats to paint freehand decorations (check Fuggit Khan’s or Ravenswood’s blog), but at the same time these parts can be colored with washes (like I did). This speeds up the painting process immensely!

-Mix and have fun. I, for instance, use only a front rank of axe & shield warriors, and fil the rest of the movement tray with Sneaky Gits. There’s no need to tell anything to my opponent, it’s obvious that my Hobbos are armed with board & sword! Still, all those raised daggers and variation in the unit, give an impression of wackyness that really fits these greenskins!

Concluding, don’t ask yourself if you should buy a single type of hobbo or another! HOARD THEM!!! You won’t regret it

Zanthrax
so you are just using those 6 BB hobs? No conversion or anything?

Oglah khan are impossible to find anywhere, and even just 1 model is usually around 30/40 euros, so it is a big NOPE for me

I wish to be able to have that many as you, but to buy it is basically impossible, I'm trying to follow auctions on ebay but basically no luck at all.
I became really fan of them, almost as more as the dwarves, I like all the models, but the problem is always the same, too pricy and impossible to find.
It will be great for me to have 1 of each model tho. My alternative was to buy the goblins from Mantic games.

In the end, how can you make the wolfriders out of the normal hobs?

PS any hob to possibly sell? Or maybe this is not possible to ask on the forum? New guy here

tenebre:

I agree Skink… out of all the old ranges the Hobbos, surprisingly are really amazing. holding up after all this time even. just wish GW would cast them on demand :frowning:

TheHoodedMan:

Skink, well done. Have some slaves for that!

You have to be patient. On continental europe sometimes Gobla Khans wolfboys are sold for “reasonable” prices sometimes under 10 EUR each, including the leader.

The other riders are harder to find from my point of view.

As far as I have seen Ghazak Khan is the most expensive.

If you want really Gobla Khans wolfboys and are ready to pay something like above you can tell me that in a pm. I know somebody who has them painted.

Fuggit Khan:

Skink! You’re the man! :cheers

Skink is right on all comments…the Hobgoblins are beautiful miniatures, yes they are pricey and hard to find, but they are are worth every effort to collect.

Regular Hobgoblin models are really easy to put on wolves. Their legs are nice and wide in most cases, so only a bit of bending is needed.

Zanthrax:

I have picked up the  bb chaos dwarfs and hobgoblins set for around $50 AUD.  It has taken a while but I am now up to38 hobgoblins and 25 odd CDs.

The hobgoblins get bows and arrow packs from the tomb kings and the CDs get weapons from chaos warriors, mono pose plastic axes etc.

I have found forums rather than eBay has been the best for Oglah khan minis as some sellers on eBay think they can pay off their mortgage with some of the prices they want.

As everyone has said the hobgoblin minis have stood the test of time and are worth the hunt.

Good luck.
