[Archive] Hobgoblin Rules Clarification

Thorne:

10 cavalry for 160 points damn I usualy feild at least 2 regiments of them for the sheer versitility of them. Cheap throw away they may be but harrassing flanks blocking march moves they rule.

Much agreed. Especially given the general lack of mobility Chaos Dwarf armies have (even when considering the 2D6+Mv for Charges in 8th Ed) they do indeed rule...

We've played a few games starting at 750pts, 1000, etc etc. I didn't find they worked well at 750 as it was too many points for a unit that I was going to charge in and potentially lose (and in low points games I was finding there was fewer things of importance I needed to flank charge, etc)... but starting at 1000pts I started putting in a minimum-sized unit and they were great.

Having a dozen of 'em is great. Keep going!! I also just got my Oglah Khan box set today and will be putting them together tonight for use tomorrow ;)

I have 2 boxes of those. I visited a guy with like 8-9 boxes. Unopened in shrink wrap still. So I got them for the sticker price basically.

Bought pretty much all of his Hobgobs and CDs for "bro price".

AssurBahniZharr:

To attack a warmachine is 6 models as far as I remember, so you have 3 Hg and 3 wolf, put a champion and You have seven attacks. Dwarf machines har hard, but Khemri, Empire, Skaven could be beaten.

Sure that a hero makes them lose the light cavalry rule?

AssurBahniZharr
No you have 6 Hobbos & wolfs. 1 hobbo+ wolf = 1 model. 12 attacks at least.

Spikes:

Yeah but cavalry and monstrous infantry count as 3.

Da Crusha:

AssurBahniZharr
yes
Yeah but cavalry and monstrous infantry count as 3.

Spikes
exactly, thats why you can only get 2 of them to fight a war machine.

Da Crusha
No.
Monstrous infantry, monstrous cavalry and monstrous beasts count as 3 models. Monsters count as 5.
You are reading the "abbreviation" incorrectly. You'll find in all other instances that monstrous infantry/cavalry/beasts refers to the monstrous cavalry and beasts types.

Consider that according to your interpretation: infantry, monstrous cavalry, monstrous beasts and war beasts count 1 mode each but monstrous infantry, cavalry, the non-existing "beasts" type count as 3 and monsters count as 5 models respectively. Can you see the error you are making?

oh WOW. I do see it now. oh man, thanks for pointing that out to me.

@ CDO community: my apologies for writing out a false rule interpretation.

The wording is pretty deceptive. The first time I read I also thought it said differently. I "get around" a lot so I've seen this discussion before. :~

This is one instance where terseness really only makes for confusion.

AssurBahniZharr:

So in the end i was anyway wrong XD Cavarly is not two models…is only 1

That’s make wolf rider hg super-coolXD

just found this in the warhammer FAQ.

Q: Where there are references to monstrous infantry/cavalry/beasts
does this mean just monstrous infantry, monstrous cavalry and
monstrous beasts (and not ?~ordinary?T cavalry and beasts)? (various)
A: Yes.

I had a feeling I had seen something like that. But I was too lazy to check for specifics. I knew I was correct you see so didn't bother... :D

Thanks for digging though. Now there's an even better chance the *next* time I see it I can say "by the beard of Hashut, read FAQ!".
