So I am trying to decide what is better to take, hobgoblins with Spears, bows and/or shields?
I am going to be buying some soon and want to pick the best choice.
I know when you take shields they lose the fastcavalry option which is pretty big
Thommy H:
Bows. No shields. Fast cavalry is the best thing in the game, and they need bows to be effective. Fast cavalry charging is a complete waste of time. With bows they have a threat range of 42".

Bows it is, Thanks Thommy
Abecedar:
definitely fast cav. sometimes with spears for the extra strength on a throwaway charge against dwarfs but with bows are fun especially if they live long enough to get behind things
Blackspine:
If it’s an all comers;
bows and spears.
you never know when there’s a ‘normal’ sorcerer in a unit.
ie: lvl 2 in front rank of empire swordsmen.
run in (suicide) and punk the mage.
bows are decent too.
Singleton Mosby:
They can be really interesting for some flank orrear charges because of the additional combat resolution they get.
Once I destroyed a unit of 9 Bretonnia knights with the little buggers btw. That must have been their most glorious day ever :hat off
Grimbold Blackhammer:
I really have to vote for naked with a Musician. I field them with the complete intention of having them die in the name of saving a Chaos Dwarf somewhere (I’m sure that’s what all hobbos dream of, right??). Life is rough in the chaos wastes…

I have to agree.
I dont really see the point in them having bows, 5 more shots wont do anything significant, and if you take into account their bs and modifiers...
Vogon:
I’ve modelled mine with spears but have used them with bows in games. While 5 shots may seem not very worthwhile they have taken out a lone High Elf Mage which.
I’ve also had great success with spears their greatest moment taking out a unit of 5 ogres thanks to a rear charge and then chasing them down. The cowardly despoilers rule that adds that extra pip of combat res really helps if you can line up a rear charge.

Isn’t it one or the other? I didn’t think both was an option.
Cheers

Yes: "one of the following" bows or spears. I would prefer the bows even though it is only for psychological reasons.
kbolster12345:
Bows because its an easy unit to take the charmed shield off a daemon prince of WoC.

I’m glad I’m not the first one to say send those slaves in naked. They come in at 60 points and make the absolute best speed bumbs, redirectors, and distractions. I wish I could run more than two units of them…

use khans on wolves. They are better;)
thrawn:
Nothing! if they survived the game you probably used them wrong!
but honestly, i only take the goblin hero on a wolf as a redirector, he’ll alway die, but it gives me warmachines another turn of shooting.
