[Archive] How did you decide on Chaos Dwarfs?

Kera foehunter:

If they are so smart. How come there still stuck in the cage?? oooohhoo baby skavens.

Willmark:

Higher up on the food chain there Kera?

Ishkur Cinderhat:

My first plans for the army came up when Ravening Hordes was published. But back then it was already kinda hard to get the models. I have collected a few WHFB armies since, and was looking for a new project in spring 2007, for the worldwide campaign.

As it turned out I couldn’t finish more than about 500 points till the end of the campaign, but there are still so many cool models in the army to be converted and sculpted. Actually, I feel the urge to finish those 2000 points before I will be overpowered by the awesomeness of the new VC miniatures in about half a year.

Willmark:

I here that. I’m trying to get at least up to a 500 point force. My first unit of 30 CD warriors is nearing completion so I should finally be able to at least play some 500 battles.

Kera foehunter:

Thats great Ishkur. So can you give more details on the army they Published

Ishkur Cinderhat:

What do you mean, Kera? The new VC are due for release in March/April 2008, so not published yet.

Nazhur:

I had a longtime ago a chaos army(around 89-90) which was Khorne based and had lots of chaos dwarfs in it. I really love the dwarves and bought more and more. Sadly, I stopped playing warhammer and sold of all my models to a friend(which I no longer have any relation too). I was then over 15 years away from Fantasy even if I played some 40k. So for one year ago I started to want to buy a new Fantasy army but had actually a big problem finding one that suited me. so I bought some De and BoH but it was not really anything for me.

But hten it happend. A new friend of mine said that he had around 1000p chaos dwarfs that he just wanted to sell off and at the same time another one sayed he had around 1000p too! So then I thought, thats great. A uniqe and very characterful army. And on this way it is. Next spring we will start a campaign of Fantasy and then I will really paint as much as I can and get this army starting.

I actually really like the big hats so my army is completly of them(and of course some hobgoblins). Even if the “new/old” style of CD are cool I still like the hats very much. The whole style with big weapon, big beards, big hats and big tusks is awsome. Also something I like about them is that not very many play them. I can imagine that a whole painted CD army will/would look great!

Kera foehunter:

Sorry sorry sorry.i miss read the post i thought you wrote the new rules and they where published .

Willmark:

Great story there Nazhur, now get cracking on your army and start a blog! The ber Daemon of Uncool commands it!

Khaosbeardling:

For me, it was simply because I love evil armies, but none of them seemed to appeal to me overmuch. I liked Dwarfs, started collecting a Dwarf army, then bought a little bit of everything except elves. I had heard of Chaos Dwarfs when I first started in the hobby. (Around 2000 or so.) I had always been fascinated by evil dwarfs. ( Come on, who isn’t?) So eventually about a year ago I bought a small chaos dwarf army from someone through PayPal. The rest is history. ( In other words many battles with my wood elf and dwarf friend where my wizard blows up during the first three turns or so, and my artillery is the first thing to die.) But hey, despite some of the glaring weaknesses in the Chaos Dwarf army list, I love em to death.

Let’s burn some slaves!:hat

lokigod:

hmm Been toying with ideal for about a year or so going through the old models at my indy hobby store… Then i decided that since no one was buying them I would pick them up and sell them on ebay, so i could expand my 5k to 6k of daemons. Found this site saw all the cool conversion and the other night tried to make a chaos dwarf! It was so much fun i sold off a tomb king army i had just picked up at a profit and spent $240 dollars at chaosorc tonight! Probaly spend another 150.00 or so in a month to finish it off!

I have been playing chaos since I started this game about 3yrs ago and been doing commision work for the last year. So i had an extra $300 or so dollars from painting to blow, and this was just a logical progression since beast and mortals didnt do anything for me. Yes this army doesnt have a fancy armoury but it has a nice balance in every phase of the game. So to the guy that wanted to do skaven I would suggest chaos dwarfs for a more balanced type of army!

Anyway I’m addicted already I can tell since I have already bought in past 2 weeks lol.

2 dwarf battalions

2 boxes of chaos warriors

and some bits from ebay!

hell cannon

3 big hat heros to use as sorcers

hob gob hero on wolf

2 death rockets

Ellimist:

I was originally a Wood Elf player, and wanted an army that was totally different in all respects to what I was doing while painting and playing the woodies. That, and the imagery dreamed up by the fan community for the army inspired me.

clam:

Being a Dwarf-player with an exploring mind - it was tempting to go east for fame and fortune - and why not explore the Dark Side too. I simply just love the background story/fluff and the models:)

Hashut’s Blessing:

Wallace and Gromit don’t conjur visions of the Dark Side, clam  Although, that smile and a dog with no mouth. Pretty scary! I think I’ve already said my reasons for starting. It’s pretty much the whole “I wandered into the 'site (This was HoH though) and liked dwarfs and evil, blah, blah, blah”, but I only started to actually get models properly this year (I started at least four or five years ago into the community). I have two core troops painted (from different units), I have two Siegeshakers painted with half-painted crew, about 8 orcs painted/in progress (one’s gone AWOL annoyingly), the very first crewman-come-sorcerer-conversion painted and my Rykarth. Oh and a darkly (half-)painted dwarf thane. That’s about it. I’m painting right now though! Which is rare, as I am not much of the painting sort. I prefer the building and converting.

torn:

i decided to get back into fantasy around the beginning of this year, and what we did was buy battle for skull pass. i took the dwarfs and someone else took the goblins, and we really liked the rules (not having played for about 3 editions) and thought lets get proper armies. by that time my regular dwarves are at 1000pts, and ive decided i actually really enjoy painting them . . . . but they seem to be missing something.

As i was thinking over what army i would start properly (or continue with dwarfs) i remembered chaos dwarfs from back in the days. The playing style would give me something i was enjoying in the games, and the modelling side of it would give me the massive projects i like having. i just feel robbed glueing up models how GW intended them to be.

And because of the great community here ive kept my interest in the project.

51la5:

For me I wanted to start warhammer my cousin had some chaos dwarfs so I decided to buy them of him however I could not find rules for them so I played tomb king for a while before a friend of mine stumbled across the rules online as soon as I had the rules I got my chaos dwarfs out of the cupboard and started playing.

Willmark:

Interestingly enough the only cd models I had for years were the petard and crew, tenderizer and 3 bazuka teams. Once 3rd edition wad supersceeded by 4th the resulting changes to my khorne chaos army meant no use for them. Till now

Also I got my first [[BFSP]] set @ Christmas last year. It proceeded to gather dust till August, when I started to think about CDs again and then re-stumbled on to HoH and then this site. Then I found Xander’s guides on youtube.

Doombeard:

i liked them when the big hats were first released, it was exciting that a whole new range of minis had been produced and they were unique and totally different , the idea of hobgobs orcs gobs and dwarfs all teaming up in one mega army seemed too good too pass on . the big curly beards, evil hobgobs , cool background , made them really appealing . i remember when a store in exeter called toys for boys was closing down and clearing them all at half price so i bought loads only to have them thrown away by my parents a few years later. so i collected another bighat army and this time left it round a mates only to have that one lost too! each army i lost made me more determined to collect them !

Xander:

Bought a small portion of 5th models and WDP:CD from a firend who wanted to quit. That was some 8 years ago. At the time I also bought some Skaven and other models off another friend who was quitting. They sat on the shelf for years, and then a few years ago I was on some other Warhammer forum and someone was looking to buy CDs. So I looked out all my CD models and started reading the army book again. For trade the guy had very generic chaos models and such. And I realized my models were too cool and rare to just trade away. I then found my way on to HoH and posted there for ages! Some 800 posts. Then finally last year this time, I had been postinbg on HoH for a year or so, I took the plunge and bought BFSP after seeing Exquisate Evil’s BFSP conversions. What he started, I began to mass produce! I was so excited at the cheap prospect of using BFSP models that I promoted the idea heavily on various forums through the use of my videos. It was also around this time that I tried to have a bunch of improvements made to HoH. The admin of HoH, Tim, was largely absent from the forum, so it was difficult to enact change. So rather than keep bothering Tim, I took another plunge, and that was to open this forum! I wanted to make a forum that would have easy to find content, archive-able threads, and a very friendly atmosphere! With all the help I recieved from my fellow staff members, we were able to successfully set up this forum! And now we have more activity for Chaos Dwarf not seen since the release of the Hellcannon!

Now I am doing my best to continue making my army, after a years time I have a small force.

Painted:

-Great Taurus

-25 CD Warriors

-Earthshaker

-12 Hobgoblins

-1 Bolt Thrower

Converted:

-50% converted unit of 25 CD Warriors

-A couple sample Blunderbussers.

-8 more hobgoblins

-Death Rocket

-Earthshaker

-2 Sorcerers

-Kollossus

Right now I am working on finishing the hobgoblins, then I will eaither complete my next warrior unit, or a unit of 18 BBs! Then I will paint the mages and have my 1000 point force done!

Willmark:

To which we all thank you Xander. Funny I vaguely remember snooping around HoH a couple years ago but it didn’t hold my interest, plus my first child was just born so I didn’t have a lot of time to devote to a new army. So I continued with my High Elves. As noted it took me 5 1/2 years before I finally made the plunge.
