I was just wondering how people use their blunderbuss units - personally I usually take 2 units of 15 with a standard ( in 3 ranks). I tend to deploy them either side of a unit of 25 CD warriors and march the whole lot forward - usually the blunderbuss unit 1/2 inch further. This usually means they are engages targets by my turn 2 and more often than not both units are engaging the same target.
Other uses for them are angling up next to a wood to protect their flanks or for holding a flank as they murder fast cavalry.
Generally I find that the more aggressive i am with them the more effective I am but then Warhammer is a game won or lost in the movement phase so this is probably just an artefact of that.
I have 33 total, so either go with 16 and 17 or 3x11. I haven;t yet got other Chaos Dwarf units lol I’ve not yet found time to get to work on my great weapon wielding Chaos Dwarfs, but have some plans for them
To be honest, although I voted for Defensively, I also use the blighters offensively. How my troops are used is quite situational, depending on my opponent and his tactics.
For instance, it does no good to sit back and wait for him to come to me if my opponent has a gunline, or to go on the offensive if he’s running a cavalry heavy army and is coming at me hard and fast.
The only hard and nearly fast rule I have is to go with 3 ranks for S5 shots, and even then I might drop to 2 ranks and S4 if the situation calls for wider frontages

I follow the same game plan. I usually put them to one side of my main blocks of troops. and swing around and hammer softer units that move in. I have screwed my self though getting greedy with them though.
At 2250 points I use two blocks of 15 blunderbusses, plain, without any command.
Normally one of the blocks flank my main combat blocks, just to prevent flanking from faster troops. The other block could be flanked by a forest/hill. I try as much as possible to shape the battle field in order to create “lanes” as the enemy should pass torough to get my dwarfs. Blunderbusses make wonders controlling these lanes.
My only complain is not to be able to shoot against hobgoblins!
Sometimes I use the two blocks to control a flank, side by side. This tactic sometimes works, sometimes, not!
