[Archive] How tall are Hobgoblins

Kera foehunter:

How talll are hobgoblins ?? are they taller than Human or does there climate dictate there size ??

Grimstonefire:

I would say smaller than an average human, but taller than a dwarf.

I think traditionally a hobgoblin is half goblin, half orc. So theoretically they could be half way between those?

Kera foehunter:

i though they wher omost tall like a orc!! but built like an elf with a belly and a hump back

Thorne:

Personaly I see them as being human sized bigger built than the traditional goblin but lacking the sheer bulk of a orc. Couple this with jutting head and perhaps goblinoid type stomach that grom the pauch seamed to favor for higher ranking types.

Baggronor:

I’d say 4.5 - 5 foot. They’d probably be taller if they didn’t have the hunch.

Warhammerman:

I always saw them as tall as humans.

nitroglysarine:

i’d say they are about 6foot6inches, but they are so hunched and walk with a bent posture making them nearer 5foot6inches.

that my take on them

Kera foehunter:

and are you talking that human are 5’ tall or 6’ tall

most Human where only 5 " tall in the dark ages

or now the present where most people are over 6’ tall

Henroth:

The tall of the Hobgoblins he’s between a goblin and a human.

slev:

According to the background material, they’re slightly shirter than humans. An average height of 5’5-ish for males would be around-about right.

Baggronor:

or now the present where most people are over 6' tall
They are? :o Not round here they're not... I think about 5'9 is average for most countries (men).

I don't even want to contemplate the notion of hobgoblin females...

Piccolo:

the 1st ed RPG book says they are ‘often reaching 6 feet in height, and occasionally nearing 7.’

Then don't look at Voxin at the bottom of this page:

:o

black hammer:

I think they should be a tiny bit shorter than humans.  They should look a lot whimpier though to reflect their weaker stat line.

I actually consider most people I know under 5’9 to be pretty short.  But then again I am over 6’4;P.

The Brain:

Going from the fluff and the model scale I think they would be about human size.

Hobgoblyn:

They are the same size as humans.

However, do remember that adult humans can range anything form 4’10" to 7’+ without even getting into those who have dwarfism or giantism.

The average one is probably on the short end of the scale compared to norse-blooded white Europeans (who are the only ones considered to be “human” in WarHammer apparently), but they can have some pretty big ones occassionally.

Do recall that early Hobgoblin renditions were powerful samurai duelists while the ones the Chaos Dwarfs dealt with were small, cheap fodder. The Mongolian ones that came later were somewhere in between and that seems to be the current version.

If it is necessary to condense it all, it would be fair to say that the few that live in the Old World amongst Goblin and Orc tribes tend to be big and powerful while the enslaved ones are small and the ones that rule the Steppes are somewhere in between depending on their social standing.

slev:

Actually, the Mongolian ones came first, the samurai followed and where then ignored, then the CD ones turned up and then vanished again, leaving the original Mongolian styled hobbos from the Steppes of Dolgany.

Baggronor:

? Cathay is full of non-white humans. And Araby. Tilea kinda too. Nehekara was as well.

Baggronor
I'm 6foot with shoes on, and i'm considered a bit of a mutant in the family.
yeah i think 'average' acording to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height

Is 5foot10inches for a man, 5foot4.5 for a women, rounding off a bit for in the UK. it seems to vary a bit internationally.

slev:

Figure scale is based on an average western human male soldier being 5’8" FWIW.
