[Archive] Idea for GW friendly Hobgoblins

Novos:

Heya!!!

So I was talking to a buddy who is amazing with conversions about which model’s bits I can take to make a perfect hobgoblin without using any putty or insanely advanced techniques. Its so simple I cant believe I didn’t think of it earlier, a great idea no less.

He said to take the bodies of stormvermin, toss the tales, and replace the heads with regular gobbo heads…

Brilliant!!! The armor actually looks perfect, only thing is stormvermin are insanely pricey. I think its a great idea though and might see how it turns out. What do you guys think? Am I missing something obvious that would make a great GW legit hobgobbo?

Thanks!

It works fine and has been done:

There are also various other GW-friendly conversions, using Goblins, Flagellants, LOTR Orcs, etc.

I’d hardly say Stormvermin are insanely pricey - not when many new kits are basically the same price for half as many models (e.g. Longbeards) - but it does add up given how many Hobgoblins you need. You can try Clanrats or Plague Monks for cheaper alternatives.

Yeah, this is actually one of the main methods used to make Hobgoblins. Known (unsurprisingly) as “The Stormvermin Method”. There’s also “The Plague Monk Method” for Sneaky Gitz. People often use Gnoblar instead of Goblin heads too.

Novos:

eeeek!!!

It appears it is. Sorry for the false alarm, but yeah that’s awesome thanks for the replies. I wonder if there is any cheaper method?

Bloodbeard:

GW friendly? Meaning you can use them in a store?

Otherwise check out Admirals great project:

I personally feel that gretchen heads are better than goblins heads. Gretchen look more sinister and cutthroaty I think.

If you want it cheapy cheapy just use goblins.

I’ve taken the super cheap and easy method for mine - painted up Night Goblins in the 4th edition Hobgoblin colour scheme. Had to do weapon swaps and hide the shield designs, but those are easy and quick conversions.

Thanks all of you for your awesome replies and advice. I found an awesome bitz ebay store and got everything I needed.

Doing the storm vermin body, gobbo head, and savage orc hands with bows.

Post as soon as I finish, woo!

Thanks again…

Savage orc hands are surely to large?

Admiral:

Ungor archer arms should work fine with Stormvermin.

Kera foehunter:

Stormvermin. and empire archer

here even shows how to do it too

I used Plague Monks cut their tails off and filed down the area than put a small ball of green stuff in the neck area to make a dome in that spot then used regular goblin heads since both the plague monk and goblin heads are concave at the junction this works with little experience in modeling
