[Archive] I'm a bit stuck

Grimbold Blackhammer:

I am looking to make braziers of fire that I can mount on a 40x40 post. What I’m thinking of would be simple and look basically like a contact lense but I’m not sure where I could find such a thing. Any clever ideas? Have any of you stumbled upon such an odd shape in your modeling?

Willmark:

If I read this right you’re looking for something round, but concave?

Darkmeer:

What about a lego dish (similar to This lego one) ?

That’s a little small for a 40mm base, but it’s close. The 6x6 is 48mm round, and would probably be less useful.

Willmark:

He says mount on a 40mm base but doesn’t say how big. I think we need more info

Grimbold Blackhammer:

I have a pillar (two actually) from the GW ruin terrain piece and I want to use it as a unit filler.  The pillar fits on a 40x40 but atop the pillar I want to put a slightly concave dish that I can paint to match the stone.  My plan is to put a small pile of skulls and bones in each and then greenstuff tongues of flame as the bones are burned.  I want to make a couple of stone bowls sort of like this…

Abecedar:

Lego “Dishes” are a definite option as they come in a fair range of sizes.

Another is concave ornaments / flat beads from a Bead Shop.

I have used some for that exact purpose. Though they are smaller than what you need but it is a possibility

TheHoodedMan:

Playmobil pieces might fit, too. They are about 2.5 size of Lego.

Thinking outside of the box: what about a suction cup?

…or does this only get things more stuck?

…I’ll leave now…

Skink:

Go to the dollar store (or equivalent), and get a metal button. Easy, sturdy, comes in a trillon of shapes, and as cheap as dirt.

Grimbold Blackhammer:

I’m loving these ideas guys! Thanks!!

Hahaha! Best laugh of the day :cheers
And like Skink says, check out your local dollar store...I've built lots of models using various dollar bits from there. The dollar toy aisle is great, you can chop up cheap cars, toy guns, etc for cannibalizing gears, wheels, "cannon" barrels, etc

Darkmeer:

Don’t forget to look in the camping silverware. I’m planning a bolt thrower using some craft wood, beads, and a couple of Hors d’oeuvre forks. Still in planning stages, but I have most of the components… soon. Between that and my pitiful sculpting I have some fun projects planned. Catapults and the salt shaker lids could be of use to you if they are the right size for what you’re planning.
