Sojourn:
I remember when Kera was only 20… hahahahaha
I remember many little things, nothing that I could necessarily add, except maybe some memories about my New Kids on the Block cassette and the fun noise it makes at the beginning and end of the cassette.
I remember being afraid to turn off the Zelda game in my NES because if you didn’t hold down reset as you hit power, you’d lose your progress (so I made my daddy do it!)
ugh, I remember kissing tag. terrible little dirty boys chasing the girls around the playground. and I remember beating the boys in various tennis ball games like red “A” (since we couldn’t say the word ‘ass’) and jail. and I remember being so pumped when the janitor went on the roof and threw down tennis balls that we accidentally roofed earlier in the month.
I remember neon coloured markers and clothes; stirrup pants, side ponytails, and Trolls (those little critters with the jewel in their tummy and the bright hair!)
thanks for making me feel old guys. (not as old as Xander though, who is a couple months ahead of me. lol)
Swissdictator:
I think she is referring to the movie.
BilboBaggins:
Or History lessons in school
slev:
Our history lessons didn’t cover that. That said, unless you went for GCSE or above in History, you didn’t study much modern history in school.
BilboBaggins:
When I went to school we had two history classes (American and World) and if you paid attention you could learn a thing or two.
Kera foehunter:
lol yea !! if you seen pee wee big adventure you now what i mean !!!
we had American and World
Swissdictator:
I learned more on my own than I ever did in K-12 education in terms of history.
My dad and I talked about the Peloponnesian War when I was 6… I even corrected teachers on history.
The stuff they teach in intro college courses is… very basic. Don’t get me started…
Kera foehunter:
lol they taught me in school His story !! But i already knowed the history of the americas!!
BilboBaggins:
I learned more of military history from my father than from public school.
When I was in school or shortly after I graduated:
Radio Shack sold Tandy Computers (TRS-80 if memory serves.)
The Space Shuttle had it’s maiden flight.
America Boycotted the Summer Olympics (between junior and senior year).
American Hostages released by Iran.
Deloren DMC-12 rolls off the production line
The Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Diana Spenser
MTV is Launched (First VIdeo Played: Video Killed the Radio Star)
Pittsbugh Steelers becomes first team to win 4 Super Bowls.
John Lennon is Killed.
Willmark:
Bibo is a few years older then me as as I graduated HS in 1991, some of those things happened around 80-81 so I was in the 7-8 range, doah!
BilboBaggins:
I graduated in 1981 at the age of 17 (youngest in my graduating class). My darling wife graduated in 1993 at 18. I joked that she’s the younger woman to keep me young so I don’t have to look for another younger woman.
two_heads_talking:
Looks like bilbo got me by 4 years… I graduated in 1985…
hashuts lil helper:
I remember my parents winning a texas instruments calculator in a raffle. it could add subtract multiply and divide, and had an eight digit red led display. It couldn’t be used outside because you couldn’t see the lights. Good thing we won it since it cost $400 in the stores
I remember when turntables came with 78 rpm setting for your jazz records
cornixt:
I got one in 2000 that had a 78 setting, including a special needle for it. I never owned any 78s though.
two_heads_talking:
those 78’s were made of a different material than the 33’s and 45’s
BilboBaggins:
I had a turntable that had settings for 16, 33, 45, and 78. Playing records at the wrong speeds was humorous for a while.

Bilbo:
The US beyond Columbus & the conquistadores, would be modern history. By the time we’d covered everything up to the renaissance, we where almost out of time to study anything else anyway.
BilboBaggins:
We seemed to have major gaps in my schooling.
We barely learned of Ancient Greece and Rome (less of Asia, Africa or Europe).
We did learn of the Aztecs, Incas and Mayans. But depending on the mood of the day they were blood thirsty savages or knowledgeable ancients that were wiped out by the insensative Europeans.
We seem to skip Leif Erickson but Comlubus was OK until later in schooling and he was now hated European.
We learned of the Founding of the Colonies and their becoming a country but mostly the driving the Native Americans (then called American Indians) to reservations was white washed.
We did learn of the World wars but less of Korea and Vietnam (I was in Middle School when we left Vietnam).
Even in the 70’s there was an agenda by the school system on what you learned.
