jolpis:

i’ve been thinking about starting an imperial guard army just to get some change and be able to play some wh40k so i have some questions

can you mix catchan and cadian minis?

how does the army work?

and are ther any cool schemes?, ive thought of a roman scheme with helmets and golden armours and red clothing, a wounded worn out army with lots of bandedges primitive weapons and silver ductejp(?) or i go for the usual military scheme with greens or browns.

im thinking of making a heavy infantry/firepower army with a minimum of vehicles

The cadian and Catachan bits will fit together, they dont look that bad - the armys are a little large, but i did chaos guard so i didnt mind -

If you are going to start i would get as many of the 20 man box sets as possible before they go up in price - 20 for £24!!!!! instead of 20 for £18 for no extra cost so if you are going infantry it might cost

jolpis:

ok, thanks what i ment with the cadian and catchan troops was can you use two in the same army?

and i might order the battalion from some internet site whatt does shipping from http://www.games-n-fun.co.uk to sweden cost?

My bad, a lot of people just stick to one army type although on extended campaign a lot of troops would fight along side each other - Armaggedon, Sabbat Worlds Crusade ect - so theres not much of a problem using them together

jolpis:

ok thanks.

so in a normal battle is it possible rulewise?

and command squads what are they for? do they allways move togeather or?

starscream:

command squads are ther to give orders. In the new guard codex they can give orders to units which, if they pass a ld test gain the advantage that order gives. A bit like faith points I suppose.

In the last codex each troop choice consisted of 2 squads of 10 guardsmen plus a 5 man command squad.

The minimum to start an army was 40

1 hq squad (5 men)

1 command (5 men)

2 infantry squads (20 men)

1 armoured fist (10 men plus a chimera).

Not sure if this is the same in the new dex.

Theres no problem in mixing the models gamewise as they are identical. Fluffwise is up to you.

Tarrakk Blackhand:

Good timing as they are bringing out thenew codex for Imperial Guards in May. Just buy the models for now.

jolpis:

anyone know how much the new codex will support votryovans firstborn, really love those guyes :hat

and will there be any plastic ones?

It'll support the First Born as much as it did before. I doubt there will be any plastic Vosytroyan models in the near future.

jolpis:

ok thanks. it will get expensive gettin all those metal models…

GRNDL:

From what I hear all IG troopers will basically be the same, so you can use whatever model you like, whether its Cadian, Praetorian, Steel Legion or Vostroyan, they all have the same crappy stats and a flashlight… It just comes down to what models you like.

slev:

It’s been that way for some time. Even the old regimental discipline rules where free of the background.

The difference is that the new codex is going to be lacking the doctrine rules. In exchange, each squad is going to be customizable enough to where they wouldn't need the doctrine rules.

I still lament the lack of Tank officers.
