Anyone found any toy trains or such that would make a good basis for a conversion, and know where I could get one?
cheers

Have a look around for model locomotive kits, such as these from dapol;
http://www.dapol.co.uk/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=24&keyword=&manufacturer_id=0&Itemid=59&orderby=product_sku&limit=5&limitstart=0
They are 00 (1:72 or 1:76 scale), but if you combined parts from different kits, then you could make a pretty cool iron daemon conversion.
flashgordon:
cheers, 00 scale is the size we need then?
theforgefather:
nooooo, 00 is about 1/2 the size of fantasy. I was saying that by combining LOTS of different locomotive kits, you might be able to make a decent iron daemon.
I hope it goes well
flashgordon:
ah cheers. are any of the train scales the sort of size we would need?
theforgefather:
Well, that would be 0 gauge, and it costs a load
E.G. Loco Kit LNER Class B12/3
Kit Price £320.00
So you if you are going to buy an 0 gauge one, you might as well just get a fw one

Here’s a pic of one of the boilers dapol do from this kit:
http://www.dapol.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=136&category_id=24&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=59
It got chopped in 1/2 and glued back together again, that is why it has a massive crack down the middle.
flashgordon:
awesome, cheers, that looks perfect
theforgefather:
Oh, and there are loads of empire steam tank bits on ebay, such as cannons (the 2 ones that go above the engine on the FW iron daemon), the boiler, and the wheels could all be made from the steam tank kit.

theforgefather:
Is that a skullcracker version?
Golder Goldeater:
I don’t even know! It’s a model I made long before Forge World even begun releasing chaos dwarfs.
cornixt:
I haven’t found any train models that are any cheaper than the FW model. If you think GW stuff is overpriced, be glad you aren’t a train collector!
I think the best you’d manage is a cheap kids toy train, although I gave up looking when I made my own Iron Daemon.

CopperPot:
Seriously if your looking at train models for your iron daemon check out amazon and look up Thomas the tank engine models they have all the characters and look to be the right size they could easily be broken down for conversion.
flashgordon:
thats what i was looking at, amazon even gives the dimensions
