Ok I spent the morning looking for some Iron Daemon alternative. (and I still am! Help!!!) Aside the empire steam tank, both new and old model I couldnt find much.
BUT I found this:
It is a papercraft, but if done correctly can look really good.
But even better, In 1 hour or so I made few changes with photoshop for create a proper chaos dwarf version, I’m going to link here the pics I modified.
I still have the CS5 version of the file, so that you can easily edit it if you wanna put other icons or whatever, so in case PM me, I have the originals in Higher quality.
In the end, I’m sorry for the wall of text/pics Hope it might be of help for any of you that like me are trying to find something else than the FW Iron Daemon.
Good work. It would look especially good if one was to make it in plasticard.

Maybe using the thin one might be possible to be done. But how can you cover it? How can you put the "paper base" on it? Just glue? What are the most common size of plasticard used for create stuff? 1 and 2mm?
Any link where eventually buy the most commons size, sheet and shapes of plasticard? I have none.
I'm going to upload somewhere a .rar with my original pics and the phsp file in it. Give me some minutes.
Glue could maybe work if one was to do it in plasticard with paper on top, but if I was to build one, I’d do it entirely out of plasticard with green stuff covering for the joints, and make all the separate details (rivets, plates, decorations) as raised details by applying more layers of plasticard to the hull, just like it looks on normal miniatures. The paper templates would only be used as templates to draw on the plasticard with.
We bought a little Galeforce 9 plasticard from Waylands some time ago, but I’m sure that isn’t an economic investment for acquiring enough plasticard sheets for a whole Iron Daemon. Here are some links that hopefully could help you:
As said, just run the knife along a metal ruler to score it. You may need to do two runs with the knife, then just snap it off. Never try and cut all the way through it in one go.

It seems 1mm and 2mm thicknesses are the way to go for vehicles, according to some scratchbuilders on Dakkadakka. You might also want to build some form of simple, internal structure to stiffen up the build. Logs like this Warseer log could be good to look at for visual examples of what to aim for with plasticard.

Do you think that something like this will work out? For me that I'm in Italy is not expensive the shipping cost.
IDK instead what to type looking for the cilinder pipes(especially the small ones for create the bolts!!), even if I know the big ones I should find one of them close by here in a hardware store.

I've got limited experience with plasticard (hardly used it for more than flaymen and some 40k details), but I think they should work. They're the right thicknesses commonly used for models. If they're relatively cheap you can always order more sets when or if you run out of the thicknesses you use.
I can't help you with the pipes typing, since it's just "plastic tubing", "plastic cylinders" and "plastic pipes". Hardware stores can be very useful places to gather hobby materials at. :)
I built one, with my own CD alterations too:

Took ages to make. Even made a few cardstock models of my own design:

YES! I saw it this morning and it gave me the idea of recreate the template myself, only after I lost the thread so I couldnt quote you in it.
I saw it took almost 10h right? Made just of paper? In what condition is still?
I wanna give a try for 2 of them with plasticard as I will order it.
It is still together, except for the cowcatcher which is not strongly attached. The wheels are surprisingly rigid and the rest has held up well. I only used 50lb card, which is thinner than most papercrafters use. It was a fun project, much harder than I thought it would be. The cutting and scoring alone took a long time.
I doubt you could make the curved sections in plasticard without considerable difficulty. There are some tight tolerances when it comes to sticking sections together, so you’d have to allow for the thickness of the plasticard.
You can get plasticard that’s somewhere between paper and very thin card. You can cut it easily with scissors. I’d definitely use that as a minimum just for longevity.

I will have the 0.5mm and 1mm plasticard, 3 sheets each, I think I will be able to pull rabbit out of the cilinder.
Check on top of the thread, i put the caps lock on my link where you can find the big pictures and photoshop files, I wanna see if you will try to make something with it!!
I guess the idea is to print all the pages, than cut them and draw back on plasticard.
Cut it too and waste hours of time, skin, sweat, curses for create something cheap and cool.
A paperdemon - that’s brilliant. Good work laying that one out in the first place. From this print it would be fairly straight forward to fold this from thin plastic cardboard. I think this will be my second Iron Demon at some point. With a bit of extra added details ofcause.
It's a great material for modelling. I made several buildings and stuff with it. Indispensable in my eyes and easy to handle. Take your time. Don't hurry and everything will work out great you'll see.

So far is not the biggest deal even because I will need to cover it with extra details, so even if something doesnt turn how i wanted, some gs and extra layers of plasticard should do the trick.
I have 1 sheet of 1mm and 3 of 0.75 I have to find here aroun some plastic pipes for create the cannon and the steampipe smoker tube stuff. No idea about the english name.
The wheels I will need a friend to cast the 4ed ones
