[Archive] IronDrakes converted to be Blunderbusses

Geist:

Like it says has anyone tried this yet? I want to give it a shot, but wanted to see if anyone else had done it yet or not.

Skink:

Sure (not me)! Here, read this and this thread.

Bloodbeard:

I’ll be using the front part og the firedrake gun - the dragon head part.

I’ll put it on regular dwarf guns and then make a green stuff cone to get the right blunderbuss look.

Geist:

So I finally was able to look at a hammer/irondrake (I know two different units but still both new bodies), and dear god are they small compared to the monsters that forgeworld made. A chaos dwarf next to a new GW dwarf is like a man next to a teenager. The difference in size is scary, the shoulder pads alone are massive compared to the large ones the normal dwarfs wear. I fear my conversion project might be in for a costly snag.

The plan had been:

Get hammer bodies as they have less rune stuff to shave off, give them plastic card helmets to get that chaos look and feel, cotton balls wound up tight for beards and irondrake guns for blunder buss. But having seen how small the hammers are, I just dont know if I could bulk them up anywhere near enough to be into scale.

So the new plan which looks like only one left but will cost a crap ton, is grab forgeworld chaos dwarf fireglavies, cut hands off and swap irondrake guns on as they still look more blunderbuss.

If anyone has any ideas on how I can get on the order of 60ish chaos dwarfs for less than 200US please let me know.

The good news is: You don't need to cut the hands off the fireglaives. They are separate from the forearms anyway.

Buy older bits? Depending on how much you want The dwarfs in my army are build from older bits. They are easy to find and there's a lot of them.

Both the old and really old dwarf warriors are easy to convert, and doesn't cost a lot. Beef them up with empire knight arms for more armor.

Space marine shoulder pads will make them look even bigger. Perhaps some forgeworld shoulder pads.

Use the bucklers from dwarf thunderer, glue them on the gun and make a cone of green stuff. Easy blunderbusses.

There are loads of good inspiration in the old army blogs from before thamurkhan.

But if it most be the new cool dwarfs... then it's gonna be expensive.
