Hey guys I just recently got one as a gift and of thinking of whether or not I will actually use it. In close combat I get stomps and attacks from dwarves. Only advantage is you get to use T of the iron daemon when they are swinging back due to its rules correct? So is it worth taking? How do you guys use it?
use it first to shoot at the biggest mutiwound models. then keep shooting til you can line it up to charge (it still gets impact hits on the charge) and then tarpit anything too scary to deal with, T8 W8 AS 3+ makes a nice tar pit.

I keep them near each other and use their guns to shoot at big expensive things as long as I can. Or to chase away Daemon Princes! I always keep in mind that one of them will get charged (usually by knights or some other un-Thunderstompable unit) so I make sure the other can counter-charge on my turn. I then run the other Iron Daemon into the enemy unit which either a) breaks the enemy unit or b) creates a giant traffic jam which often ends up protecting my war machines.
I had a Greater Daemon charge one of my Iron Daemons once. Then I flank charged him with the other Iron Daemon… Then the Greater Daemon wasn’t there anymore…

More like I wasn’t unlucky. Charge, flank, five impact hits did four wounds after his saves. He did one wound back to me. And he exploded. That was without letting me shoot him with either cannonade too. They’re great for shooting monstrous cav, stomping infantry, charging/shooting monsters, tough to get the points out of - they’re the whole package for me =)
I have played about 5 games with my skull cracker. I have found it tricky to get into position, but it hits like a ton of bricks and is very resilient.
In one game, I didn’t roll enough movement to get a charge of of the front of a block of Chaos warriors. It stopped one inch short, and got charged in the front by the warriors, in the flank by another block of warriors, who were joined on that side by Throgg and a unit of trolls. It survived the last two turns of the game in this combat. It didn’t do much damage in return, but I can’t imagine anything else I field sustaining that kind of beating.
And there was also the game where a lvl 2 metal mage turned it inside out on turn one.
Is it actually possible to use it for countercharge after the latest FAQ? Since the opponent needs to be able to Close the gap, I was under the impression that you, except in theory, never could charge and ongoing combat.
I ve some question about about Iron Daemon. Is it allowet to march with it? Rules say: “It may normally move to Its M distance and fire its wepons withour penalty while doing so. Alternately, it may choose (tu opis fluffu). In this case, rather than using the normal rules for charging or marching.“ So I understand it can move up to 6” and shoot or march 12”.
