[Archive] Is WHFB returning?

zobo1942:

Looking forward to it - I could never really get into AoS.

Abyssalmatt:

Its not returning for me; abuse me once, shame on me; abuse me twice, I learn pretty slowly; abuse me over 20 years, youre games workshop; kill my childhood and leave me bloody on the side of the road with a roll of quarters, I move on to mantic and never look, back.

Ouch... :o
I very much enjoy KoW too, and with the latest edition they have really gone deep into world building as well. Ive really grown to love KoW as well and wouldnt leave it. But should WFB return in any form Id be happy to delve into the world again, doubt Id play the game. But its a slippery slope... :hat off

tjub:

According to these rumors GW will develop both HH and WFB as mainstay games along with 40k and Aos…

Faeit 212: GW Expanding in 2020!

Skink:

Meh. I would have preferred for this new edition to be set in an alternative universe where the End Times never happened (or did not end with the world exploding). But ok, as long as Lizardmen and Zharr Naggrund are going to be a part of it I am in.

Admiral:

Skink, headcanon reigns supreme at the end of the day. Enjoy the version which suits yourself best: That’s always the key.

Cheers

Tokheim:

Just arrived back on here, I was lost in the Warhammer Wasteland the last few years!

Not sure if I would trust GW to actually bring back all the armies to the WHFB fold, Chaos Dwarfs were very neglected for a long time and never did get their book in 6th edition.  We had to rely on fan based offerings to get by mostly.  I tried 9th Age but since retirement to the Sunshine State, can’t really find any devotees to that system down here. Mostly KOW so that is what I’ve tried to concentrate on the last couple of years.

As for GW bringing back the game, I dropped them like a hot lava bomb when they dropped our square bases, even if they bring back a square based game, I refuse to pay any more for high priced figures or high priced army books.  There are multiple other games out here, both round and square based, that include “free” army lists for folks to get started into fantasy gaming.  I’d like to say “Thanks” to GW for bringing it back, but they burned their bridges with me when AOS came out.

I’m going forwards and not backwards.  Going to work on finding and painting all my various Chaos Dwarfs from multiple companies in 2020, for Kings of War.

Glad I’m back on here!

Sorry for OT...
Welcome back! Though this might not be the thread for it, Im interested to read your thoughts and see some armies for KoW 3rd ed. Both Abyssal Dwarfs- and our Ratkinslaves-armies whichever people are working on.

Horace:

I would personally like to see a refined 8th edition, perhaps scaled back to 4th/5th edition sized armies to make it more accessible to newcomers. Building on the success of Total War I would quite happily see them flit around the Old World perhaps focusing in on little campaigns here and there which they could release books and mini armies for - many of the ones listed in Admiral’s post.

I fear we will get something very watered down though, but you never know, perhaps my pessimism is misplaced. GW certainly seem to have upped their game the last few years they just haven’t been catering for the likes of me with their offerings until now. If it’s rubbish I will just continue playing 8th. At least I have all my lovely books.

I genuinely hope so. I personally found the game to be extremely clunky and waaaaay too skewed towards certain kinds of play, such as deathstars or heavy use of magic. I personally like AoS, the game is so smooth and simple rulewise that you can play multiple games within a couple of hours, yet it allows for deep tactics & synergic list building. And this is what I hope to see for the upcoming reboot: a game with simple rules that is going to bring back blocks of troops, and set in the Warhammer Fantasy universe.

Finally, forget about EVERYTHING that GW as ever done before hiring Rountree. This guy turned the company upside down since the beginning of his mandate. I am sure that this new edition is going to be put together with us, the players in mind.

Bolg:

I’ve been playing warhammer for 22years. stared in 4th edition and never stopped (still have nightmares about 7th edition, fear and auto break) love the game and all its been throug. I play 9th age now but I really considder that just warhammer. I wonder wat Old World will be netx to that. I will try it…as long as it can use my old miniatures and then see.

wonder how diferent from 9th age it will be…

Tokheim:

Just used some of my new/old chaos dwarfs for Mordheim, had a houseguest here from overseas for 11 days.

That was a BLAST! Takes me back to the old Warbands series of battles too, also a great time. I tried 9th Age when it first came out, gave up when it was going through it’s development stages, now the closest player is I think in Miami which is 4 or so hours south of our house. Always had a BLAST up at Buckeye Battles with Jeff Parkhurst as the TO, I recommend that as one of the top GT’s I’ve ever gone to. They stayed true to Warhammer with 9th Age, most of that area stuck with 9th over AOS and KOW.

I will keep you guys up on my army developments over in that specific thread area, as I find more figs. Right now I’m cleaning off the game table of all the war bands and buildings from Mordheim!

Last thing I’ll say about GW. They may have changed developers or the steersman in charge. But their prices keep me from buying any more of their figs. I can get more for less from other nifty companies. Still leery…
