[Archive] It's about bloody time I painted something (We're back, son!)

khedyarl:

Alright, here’s a couple rebased things.  The Daemon, the K’daii.  The unit of half-finished Infernals, too.

Here’s a shot of the Infernals.  They still have a ways to go - the Shield glyphs, and the banner will be repainted since they were only done initially to be complete for the tournament.

Soulassassin:

Great stuff! The metal comes across really nice, looks worn and blackened.

Yodrin:

Awesome, like em!!

khedyarl:

Alrighty, nothing huge to report, but I did start painting flesh.  Redoing all the flesh-tone on the minis I previously rushed through.

(Beards aren’t done, yet.  They’ll be a brighter orange/red.  Horns/teeth obviously aren’t finished either.  Long ways to go.)

Yodrin:

So far, so god!!

Vogon:

I like these. Very nicely done. Who’s the guy on the right in the last two photos?

Cheers

Vogon

P.S. is that some chemistry homework on your desk?

khedyarl:

The guy on the right is one of the engineers from the Dreadquake - he’s the guy that sits on the end of the platform and cranks the big lever connected to the steam drive.

And yeah, it’s intro Chemistry - taking it over the summer because I’ve been putting it off for a while. Heh. Most of the pictures I take I try to stick something bright under them, and it’s usually homework that is close by. I think if you scroll up a few pictures you’ll see a couple diophantine equations, and some combinatorics.

DAGabriel:

looking good, stay focused and show us more!

khedyarl:

Ok, I’ve been hammering through my paintload pretty quickly.

I have some characters and the Dreadquake Ogre to show you.  Soon as I finish up the weapons on my new secret project, I’ll toss those pictures up (probably tomorrow evening).  Hint:  they’re green!

So the mounted Prophet isn’t finished yet - the moustache hasn’t been finished (which is why it’s a slightly different colour), and the fire is just a placeholder.  Tonight, along with the secret project, he will be getting some green fire.

tjub:

Looks good!

I’M BACK FROM THE TOURNEY, AND HIDEOUSLY HUNGOVER.

Best general, and one more tournament down!

Before I continue, I’d like to make a shout-out:  PAUL TING.  IF YOU ARE READING THIS, SIGN UP FOR THIS FORUM AND POST YOUR DAMNED DWARFS.  THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL.

Without further ado, a few tourney pics before I pass out:

The Centaurs, unfortunately, weren’t finished to the level I would’ve been happy with, but they were certainly playable, and absolutely lynchpin.

This was the only picture of a game mid-action I was able to snap off - it was against Desmond Ng, a friend of mine, on the final game of the day.  Desmond took home best painted, and his army looked fantastic.

Finally:  I promised some pics last time I posted of a project I was working on.  Here we go!

That’s it for today, I’m crazy exhausted after the 8 hour drive.

Seriously Paul, if you read this, post your stuff!

(Next year, Hobgoblin slave force!)

Yodrin:

Your army looks great!! Very nice colors, and very nice paint job!!!

Da Crusha:

VERY NICE! I really like the direction you have taken your models. the bases look 100x better and seem to do a lot for the army. How did you get that green on your hobgoblins? that skin tone is fantastic.

DAGabriel:

Happy BDay, have a nice day and tomorrow we would like some updates ;-)))

khedyarl:

Hey, everyone! Thanks for the kind words.

Da Crusha: The green is painted using the same way that I paint everything else. I start with a colour (for the hobgoblins that colour was Skarsnik green), and make it darker by mixing in black until I think it’s dark enough for a basecoat. I basecoat the model, and blend up to the original colour, then blend up with white until it is bright enough to do highlighting work.

A friend of mine has been showing me a lot of techniques over the last year and a half that have drastically improved my painting. Just barely highlighting the very edges of flesh with a mixture of mostly white, and some base colour is one of the things he taught me that has made my flesh tones much, much better.

So, I haven’t painted since the tournament, I’ve mostly just been screwing around removing flashing from my Warhound titan and building my Imperial Guard Praetorians. Is there anything in my army you guys want me to take better pictures of that I could use as filler for now?

Thanks for the birthday wishes, too! :hat off

ADDENDUM:

My plan for next year is to bring an army of Hobgoblins, backed up by a unit of Blunderbusses. So, in the future, there will be some Hobgoblin on foot updates!

Kera foehunter:

nice army i like your blue bullscentaurs and happy birthday People born in July kick butt

Soulassassin:

Just have to say that the blue, the gold and the way you highlight all work very well together. The army looks awesome :cheers

khedyarl:

Hey guys!

It’s been forever since I’ve been able to paint something, but I’ve been working on some stuff for an upcoming tournament.  First up:   I finally worked on my Taurus!

(I need to do the base still, and hit the flesh with a light matte varnish)

The tournament’s a three-day event, and I’ll be bringing Infinity to the friday evening.  I don’t have any shots of the models, but here’s the bases I worked on:

I’ll toss up a few more Infinity things as I progress.  Unfortunately I just haven’t done much work on my Dorfs.

(Paul Ting, if you’re reading this, join up you son of a bitch!)

Malorndk:
