[Archive] K'aai / Taurus Blazing Body rule

Baader the Great:

Most Recent FAQ

On Page 184 and 185: Replace the Blazing Body rules text with the following:

Any model (friend or foe) in base contact with one or more Bale Taurus or K'daai, except a Chaos Dwarf using it as a mount or another K'daai, takes an  automatic Strength 4 hit at the start of the close combat phase. This is a flaming attack.
Additionally, any non Magical attacks must re-roll successfulTo wound rolls.

Fireborn are K'daai so they don't get the -1 anymore

As I just wrote in another thread:

If you ignore the email from Forgeworld, then the Great Taurus doesn't have the Blazing Body rule anymore!

The FAQ says: "Page 184 and 185: Replace the Blazing Body rules text with the following..."

So, whatever it says on page 184 and 185 about "Blazing Body" is deleted and not an official rule any more.

Instead, you now have the rule from the FAQ whichs says: "Any model (friend or foe) in base contact with one or more Bale Taurus or K?Tdaai..." The Great Taurus isn't mentioned. RAW would mean that being in base contact with a Bale Taurus or a K'daai causes a strength 4 hit, but not being in base contact with a Great Taurus.

So, as I said, the wording of the FAQ taken literally would mean that the Great Taurus doesn't have the Blazing Body rule anymore (or, that the Great Taurus still has it, but it doesn't do anything for him).

The email, however, makes it clear that this isn't what was intended.

Baader the Great:

Yes, I know, it’s an old thread, but a lot of people are still using these rules. And I’m one of them.

There’s more… if a big monster (like an Arachnarok) is in base contact with three Fireborn at its front and one Bale Taurus in its flank… how many strength 4 hits does it get from Blazing Body? Of course, only one, because its says "Any model (friend or foe) in base contact with ONE OR MORE Bale Taurus or K?Tdaai…"

However, if the Arachnarok is in base contact with three Fireborn, one Bale Taurus and one Great Taurus (the latter with Storm of Magic Rules), how many strength 4 hits does the Arachnarok get now? Two. Because the Fireborn und the Bale Taurus have a rule that says “in contact with on or more Bale Taurus or K’daai”, while the Great Taurus has a different rule that says “Any model in contact with the Great Taurus takes an automatic strength 4 hit”.

So, being in base contact with 10 blazing body enemies results in only one automatic hit as long as no Great Taurus is among them. If one of the 10 opponents is a Great Taurus, it becomes two hits.

Very strange indeed, but that’s how it’s written.

At second thought, the lockdown was too hastily carried out and based upon the judgement of two members whose balanced and reasoned thinking I respect much. No ill intent meant, it was merely a quick routine act at first thought, somewhat reminiscent of spam removal. Some other forum sites shut down any old resurrected thread.

Yet, naturally, the age of a relevant thread and the date of its last post is of no matter to the subject itself if something of substance can be added to the discussion. Nevertheless, let’s keep the other thread locked to concentrate the Blazing Body discussion here. Carry on, ladies and gentlemen.

Thank you. No offense taken. And as far as the Blazing Body discussion is concerned... I think a simple house rule would solve all the problems I wrote about. Let's just do in our games what Forgewold offcicially couldn't do: give the SoM Great Taurus the same Blazing Body rule like the one the K'daai and the Bale Taurus have. Then everything's fixed.

Agreed, houseruling is the way to go to fill in the mistaken gaps and flaws in the rules, including the very odd allowance during 8th edition for unit-blocking with a couple of Great Eagles…
