[Archive] K'daai destroyer conversion stonehorn/thundertusk

Hashutcopper:

I’m in the process of convetining my K’daai destroyer,This was converted from a tonne of green stuff and stonehorn/thundertusk kit, got the idea from a great hobyist called Tim, and changed it to my needs. Enjoy

vulcanologist:

This could be very nice! Are you going for a body lava effect like Tjub?

Hashutcopper:

Definitly going for lava in the cracking and pouring out of the mouth.

Smog:

The Thundertusk kit really is a great starting point for a Destroyer!

Zanko:

Is it lava or is the Destroyer vomiting??? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Looks good - I’m curious to see the painted model!

Hashutcopper:

defintely lava

Kronosv13:

It’s shaping up really well, i really dig the cracking skin and the lava flow from the mouth.

Hashutcopper:

After a day of on and off painting finally got my K’daai destroyer up to a reasonable level with a decent amount of paint on it.

Is it finished like that?

Love the conversion… Can you give some details as to what you did in the modelling prep? I stopped playing WH when the dwarfs got their new book in version 6, these new models are unfamiliar to me.

Also, are you nervous using a 4 legged beast for the destroyer that you are now using a larger base than necessary for a rare? or would all monstrous large monsters be using this base size (can you tell im still thinking that base size determines unit strength? )

Smog:

In the case of the Destroyer, the large base size is actually a bonus since you can hit more models with the blazing body rule. Besides, I think it says in the rulebook that you are supposed to put it on the same base size as the arachnorok.

Hashutcopper:

Thanks for the coments. The rule book states that K’daai destroyer must be on the larger sized base.

The prep for the model was farely simple but long. I had to cut back alot the fur and excess until the body was cut down enough to built up the layers of green stuff, and use GW sculpting tool to press in the lava cracks and smooth the ends to a close. Semi sett armour plate was placed on and sheilds were glued and green stuffed on once greenstuff layers were set. Stonehorn horns were removed and cut down thundertusk horns were pinned and green stuffed on top of the head. Wire was bent into shape and super glued in the mouth then greenstuffed over and the the wire out of the mouth was green stuffed around. Had to pin the head on as it wouldn’t fit properly and the gap was greenstuffed. Flames were also greenstuffed on the face. The tail was cut down pinned and attached later. Then a few other little things.

Big job

Wow a lot of prep went into just getting the model for your first set of pics before painting. Thanks for the guide, this may be a project later in the summer, before i go back to school in september.

And thanks for the clarification on bases.

Very nice conversion. It's fun seeing everyone's interpretation. It will be really interesting to see what Forgeworld eventually comes up with.

The_Bear_in_the_Hat:

Nice work. It’s a great model (the Stonehorn) to work with.
