[Archive] K'Daai Destroyer within 3 months, FW has no further plans for CD

Odatria:

After reading several other people saying forgeworld will be releasing the destroyer soon both on here and elsewhere, I decided to email them to ask and try to find out more about their planned releases. I’ve messaged them back since so I will keep you updated if they reply. Looks like the destroyer will be out within 3 months though (I personally cannot wait I really like it and have been waiting since I saw it at games day), but that might be it. Hopefully we can show them enough interest to continue making more Chaos Dwarf models…

Hi there,

I was wondering when the K’daai destroyer model is actually due for release? I saw it at games day in September however I know it was first seen about a year before that, and it seems like every time someone asks the model is pushed back further in the release line. Last I heard it was due for release at the start of this year but other people who have asked seem to be getting told Q1 this year, by Easter, or even the first half of the year. Is there a definitive answer?

I understand why chaos dwarfs are being pushed back by releases such as the horus heresy due to popularity but that’s one reason I’m not doing my planned heresy army yet, I’d rather wait and finish my chaos dwarf project and know many people who would agree we’d like to see our range completed. For example aside from the destroyer, we’re still lacking a battle standard bearer, great weapon and blunderbuss infernal guard and infernal ironsworn.

I know a lot of us chaos dwarf players would settle for upgrade packs with the various weapon options for the infernal guard, bull centaurs etc and I know conversion work can be done to achieve it in the meantime but for some like myself I’m much more into gaming than converting, and playing WYSIWYG we really want these missing parts in the range to be filled in.

I am aware that gw has old models for stuff like the blunderbuss dwarfs and lamasu, however they really don’t fit the new aesthetic of the chaos dwarfs and so aren’t really a suitable excuse not to produce them yourselves, no offence intended. Plus they are metal, and one of the main reasons I prefer your line to games workshop is the material.

Thanks for your help.
Hi there.

We are planning to release the K’Daai Destroyer model at some point in the next three months although no fixed time has been set for this as yet. With regards to other releases for the Chaos Dwarves we have no plans for a Battle Standard Bearer (very few Warhammer armies actually have a dedicated BSB model) or other infantry so please accept our apologies.

If there is anything further we can do to assist you, or if you have any queries about the information we have requested or provided, please telephone us.

Forge World
Thanks for the reply. Can I please ask why you do not intend to release models for the ironsworn, or great weapon or blunderbuss infernal guard? I can see why you do not intend to release hobgoblin models if they would work out un-cost effective to produce and for the consumer to buy, I am happy to make do with night goblins and goblin wolf riders by games workshop for those, but there really is no ‘alternative’ model for most of the other things missing from the current range for the Chaos Dwarfs, such as weapon options for those units mentioned.

Also I feel your statement very few Warhammer armies actually have a dedicated BSB model is untrue, since Empire, Orcs and High Elves have hero kits that can make them, and Wood Elves, Dwarfs, Tomb Kings, Vamprie Counts and Lizardmen (limited edition Saurus and the Slann) do have BSB models, that is around half the armies or more with BSBs. The fact you make the Vampire Counts one yourselves for a games workshop army, I’d have thought you’d release one for your single own fantasy army range as well. Even conversion efforts would be very limited on this one as there is only one banner in the current Chaos Dwarf range, and in an average army 3 or more banners in use.

Please don’t take this as a complaint it is intended as constructive criticism. I know several other gamers who feel the same way about the Chaos Dwarf range as it does feel somewhat incomplete, and Forgeworld almost give us the impression they are either totally done with it, leaving it half finished, or are more dedicated to their 40k / Horus Heresy fans than to us, your dedicated fantasy collectors and players. Is there any way people showing an interest in things like those mentioned above will ever help see them released or is it a wasted effort?

I know your designers and sculptors are very approachable at events, but I’m thinking maybe we need to show our interest to those higher up in command. Would an online petition perhaps help show how much interest there is in the Chaos Dwarf range expanding?

Thanks for taking the time to read and reply.
I’ll reply here if they do.

Has anyone else heard anything similar or anything different?

Lol ur second email is boss … Tell those forgeworld folks how wrong they are…

What I heard was that Forge World has discovered what GW has known for years.

Space Marines sell better than fantasy.

Since the Horus Heresy models are selling so well no further effort is going to be put into Warhammer Forge.

I'm not saying I agree with it or guaranteeing it is true, but that is what I have heard.

AndyG:

I have been unofficially told that K’daai Destroyer will be pre-release at forgeworld open day in March so it can be hyped up, then released fully in April.

As far as I can recall, of all designers names and credited for models, non of the sculpted credited by warhammer forge have yet been credited in the Heresy Series, but I may well be wrong. This would torpedo the “can’t work on two projects at once” idea. Although the book designers are probably a single team and are working flat out on Heresy, we don’t need a new book.

Thanks for this - what a great thing to post. Dedicated. It's good communication and very fun to read. Putting FW in their place - no BSBs. Ha!

A few slaves heading your way.

Geist:

I am torn, I like the ForgeWorld models as most are very cool looking. But the down side is stupid shit like this “(very few Warhammer armies actually have a dedicated BSB model)”, compound that with the fact that ForgeWorld has no clue what the rules for the CD should be. As evident by the piss poor wording and several questionable rules and FAQ’s made so far. All of this tears me, I love my CD army but I am always frustrated by the bad rules and bizarre points system that makes no bloody sense unless your drunk as a GW lead designer.

Is it really asking too much that they finish the line and rewrite the book but with proper testing of ALL the rules. A new book would be costly but shit it would sell, specially if they took time and did it right!

Admiral:

I wouldn’t put too much weight at the no-further-plans statement in the long run. Once Horus Heresy is more or less done in a few year’s time, FW is likely to return to Warhammer, and, indeed, their own army: Chaos Dwarfs.

Updating and expanding the Dawi Zharr range wouldn’t be anything more than they have done for 40k for years now.

I seem to remember something being said a couple of years back about how they wouldn't be releasing anything new for CD and then the Destroyer WIP pics appeared.I was definitely told there would be nothing else released which was the reason I converted my own Taurruk out of one of their BC and then the Taurruk was released.

IMO - I don't think there are ANY plans. It seems like when inspiration strikes, they go with it but there is no 5 year plan.

Odatria:

Hi there.

The reason for us not intending to produce more Chaos Dwarf models is that currently our designers simply do not have the time available to do this.  We have an already very busy work schedule that we can not deviate from although we are aware that some people wish to expand the range.

If there is anything further we can do to assist you, or if you have any queries about the information we have requested or provided, please telephone us.

Don’t worry loves, some people WILL expand the range if you don’t.

Skullking:

Doesn’t Trish still sculpt monsters full time? And I think whoever sculpted the bull centaurs goes back & forth between 40k & fantasy.

I’d love another army list for CD, even if they didn’t finish all the models in it right away. Just adding in stuff like regular chaos dwarf warriors, & the hobgoblin bolt thrower would be nice. With new ‘reg’ dwarfs out soon, it seems like a good time for a conversion set.

Haha, this!

Baggronor:

very few Warhammer armies actually have a dedicated BSB model
Surely this is the point of FW? To make extravagant things that aren't in the regular range?

Of that, you can be certain.

Vogon:

You mean like these?

It would seem that Warhammer Forge have done a BSB for every race they've done anything for apart from Chaos Dwarfs and Skaven.

Cheers

Grimbold Blackhammer:

Wow, I’d never seen some of those banners. They are REALLY great! The one thing I am secretly hoping is that the new Dwarf release will have a decent banner among them that I can convert. The one thing I’ve never been really excited about in my army is the banner and I’d like to change it. Although seeing that Dwarf banner Vogon posted, it might be worth breaking out the green stuff and try and create something inspired by that. Dang I like that banner a lot!!

Thorgar:

Edgar skomorowski was the great sculptor who did the best of the range. Now hes doing primarchs and HH. They should really let him return and do a bsb, blunderbusses…shich would only need a sculpt of hands and the gun. A skull masked daemonsmith like the art. Its a great shame we waited so long only to kinda get shafted again.
