Ok, I have two 2500pt army lists, which are pretty much the same but with a few important differences. I haven’t done the exact points, but they are with 20pts of the target. Which do you think is the best option?
Tzarina Katarin, Ice Queen of Kislev (in Kossars)
Boyar - HA; Army Standard, Barded Steed, Talisman of Protection (in Kossars)
Boyar - HA, Lance, Horse, Enchanted Shield, (In Gryphon Legion)
Boyar - HA, Lance, Shield, Horse (In Winged Lancers)
5x Horse Archers, Champ
5x Horse Archers, Champ
6x Winged Lancers, Full command
6x Winged Lancers, Full command
6x Winged Lancers, Full command
18x Kossars, Full Command
18x Kossars, Full Command
10x Gryphon Legion, Full Command, War Banner
Then the optional extras, either
4x Ogre Ironguts, Full Command
10x DOW Dwarves, Crossbows
or drop a boyar and 4 Gryphon Legion and take
Empire Level 2 wizard, dispell scroll and another magic item
10 Empire Huntsmen, Marksman
10x Empire Crossbows, Marksman
6x Inner Circle White Wolf Knights, Full Command
The first option is strictly legal, the second takes a few liberties with the Kislev allies contingent rules (Essentially it takes the Empire troops as an allied contingent to a Kislev force, instead of doing it the more usual other way around)
Do I need the extra magic defense to make it reasonably competative (As far as magic defense goes, the Tzarina is a level 4 wizard with no extra options, no dispells scrolls etc)? I also have enough stuff to do two units of 6 Gryphon Legion
I say go with the second option, i have a Kislev army also, i have not played with them in ages mind you but i don love them, the models are just so good and the army is really good, such a shame gw did not make them a full army , maybe they are what the secret army is ?
Any way back on topic i think the white wolfs will be of more use with the higher armour save you can get away with throwing them at harder targets and you do need some dispel scrolls in the army it is a shame for her points she does not get any extra options, that?Ts the reason i use Tzar Boris on his bear in a unit of 10 wing lancers, now that makes a mess of most units Would be great to see some photos of your army can you post them up ?
Thanks for the input Loki, I have painted less than half the models, so there will bo no pictures for a while yet. I am worried about magic defense, but not keen on the idea of a scroll caddy. Maybe I could try the old Rod of Power Trick? Do yoy think I would be better off trying to shave a few points off here and there and taking two units of six Gryphon Legion as opposed to the one unit of ten?
I think the two units would work best mate, if 10 run thats alot of points heading for the nearest board edge, there is nothing wrong with a scroll caddy, hell thats all my wizards ever do as i am not a fan of magic and put my faith in good old fashied cold steel to win the day
I have had a Kislev army since they came out, but I have always found that they get blown off the table by armies that cause fear or have high leader ship. The biggest problem has been their lack of armour. Do you guys have the same problem. I was thinking aboug using them as Bretonians. They have about the same stuff, Knights, mounted archers, crappy infentry, and casters. I am leaning heavy to this since I put some extra winged lancers on great eagles to use as pegasus knights. The beorgs bearmen from DOW would make some nice grail pilgims with some alterations. any thoughts?
Honestly, I lean towards option 1, but substitueing a DOW cannon for the Dwarf Crossbows. With 2 units of 18 bow armed models you have sufficient mid S shooting, but you could use a little something extra to take care of big nasties at range.
I wouldn’t bother with those dated rules, Empire armylist is a lot of fun and you can easily make a Kislev army with it (knights - winged lancers, boyars - swordsmen/fc/archers etc.). The only good unit in Kislev armylist is the Horse Archers, and pistoliers are still better (and converted horse archers with pistols look really cool ^^).
Well, I suppose that I could, but I already have an Empire Army. I don't mind the dated rules, I think thats part of the fun really (plus I get the Glorious Charge, Stubborn and Ice Magic). Besides it isn't as if they are as old as the current Chaos Dwarf rules. ;)
