[Archive] Kislevite problem

Thorne:

Well nearing completion of my CD’s I was thinking of my next project. I have a grand idea of a small 1500 -2000 point army any pointers when I can find alternative models to citadel models for the army. I had been considering raiding Perry Minitures for the ungol horse cavalry using the american civil war cavalry and then for the winged lancers possibly their nepoleonic cavalry but the rest I have no idea. Has anyone any pointers as GW seam not to like the niche cooler armies they have made during the past and moving towards the generic armies like Empire Chaos and elf and undead forces shich they support more readily. Any advice would be awesome.

Zanko:

I’m not use what are you really searching for!

Do you search alternative Kislevites or also other suggestions like Araby or Nippon or …?

slev:

Yeah, I have the same problem as Zanko.

The reason GW don’t do much for these armies is that they simply don’t have the popularity, and don’t sell as well as a result. It just can’t be justified financially.

For Kislevites, you want to be looking at Polish with elements of Tsarist Russia, and, depending on the ethnicity of your force, either ice magic or animistic shamanism & elementalism.

Ebay has loads of official figures too.

Thorne:

Yes the problem is I want for my next army a Kislevite style army, The biggest problem is Gamesworkshop dont sell so redily the kislevite style figures any more. Like CD’s they in the opinion of Gamesworkshop management they do not sell so well (Probably according to price and lack of plastics) So I have the idea that I can use perry plastics to build the mainstay of the cavalry, The biggest problem I think I will get is infantry. So where do I find appropriate infantry for the army I wonder ?

Piccolo:

slev is right. u might want to check out minis from some historical game systems. I suppose u would have to look for Heavy hussars of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (the historical equivalent of winged lancers). As for infantry im sure u can find something in historical games as well.

Zanko:

O.k. Kislevite ones:

What about these ones: Cossak Wars

:hashut

Thommy H:

Some of the models from the Privateer Press Khador range may be suitable.

Wow, the cossaks unit of 30 men for $35 is beutifal.
alrough i think they would look a bit odd as a rank and file unit.
but as a Mordheim group, they would really work!

Thorne:

Thus far I have found some of the most striking models for a Kislevite force I have ever seen without doubt. Im certain this one could make a fantastic leader type.

But without question this is also prettyu beautyfull sculpting as per normal from freebooter

A big thanks to pointing me in the direction of old glory I didnt realise they made such models and are a treat to look at but im not sure how you could get them to rank up without buying them something I will look into next time I consider getting some new models !

Thanks all could you keep the suggestons and inspirations coming

Border Reiver:

Maybe it’s because I’ve seen some real ones before, but why do mini sculptors feel compelled to sculpt every female fig (or pretty close to it) as if she was at least DD and would go to battle in a low cut outfit and heels?

Unless of course, she wanted to then its alright.

Thommy H:

Probably the same reason every male figure (excluding monsters, etc.) has broad shoulders and rippling muscles.

AGPO:

This is my recipie for updating kislev:

Kossars:

Using marauders of chaos as your base, you’ll need a collection of bare heads from the mordheim, empire, hairy heads and marauder horsemen range, plus some common goblin bow arms and a selction of quivers. First remove all the chaos symbols from your marauders. The models wielding their great weapons are very simply assembled by using the flail arms from the marauder sprue, with the chains replaced by an axe head. You can then glue a quiver to the model’s back, and maybe add a cloak, or some GS fur hats, coats and moustaches to the models. To make models with bows, simply swap in the common goblin bow arms and remove the greenskin symbol on the wristguard.

Winged Lancers:

First you’ll need to look up the feather sculpting tut on bolter and chainsword. Use this as the basis of your back banners, you can then use the pistolier boxed set as the basis of your lancers, using either brass rod or your bitz box for the lances. Some appropriate shields from your bitzbox, plus a few more ‘kislevite’ details such as fur hats and moustaches.

Horse archers:

I’m using glade riders with marauder torsos and the aforementioned bare heads for these guys. Reasoning is that a) I can re-use te marauder legs with some free company torsos to make more kossars, b) you get more unarmoured horses in this set than any other and c) It would take ages to remove all the chaosy details from the marauder horsemen box.

Border Reiver:

I’ve actually considered making a boyar on foot using the Commissar Gaunt mini - file off the power sword wires and do a weapon swap for a more appropriate pistol and your pretty set. One very dynamic boyar
