[Archive] Kolossus - worth the cost?

Mr Saturday:

I’m starting a CD army, and I’m awful tempted to include a kolossus. Has anyone fielded one of these, and what are folks opinions? Any tactical tips folks might have for monsters would also be appreciated.

Thommy H:

Is this is the Indy GT list? Because I think the consensus is that it’s totally overcosted and doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense.

Unzul:

I’m agree with Thommy H…

In the Indy GT the Kolossus cost too much points and it isn’t very strong… the other rare choise, like golems or heartshaker or hellcannon are better than it…

Mr Saturday:

Yes, the indy GT list. That would be my reading of it too. It’s pretty expensive and seems to be just a terror-causing firing platform, which is fine, but it’s quite weak in close combat, and for that price I’d expect it to have more attacks. I guess it would have thunderstomp though?

nitroglysarine:

Its one of those things, if you want one, don’t let game play or tactics hold you back.
It may be better to (for some) go for the models you like, and then build a theme around it.

I have 150 Empire Militia models, and 100 flagellants, not because they are good item for tactics, I just like the idea of fielding an empire of roused locals and a bunch of nutters from the local Abbey.

For some its theme, for some its gameplay or tactical, some it purely models, for some its a mix of all three.

I go for models, then theme, and at the back of my mind there is pulling together a legal army.

dncswlf:

I like fielding mine… the demon phlegm attack is pretty damaging… It looks cool on the battlefield!

Mr Saturday:

@nitroglysarine, indeed, the one I have in mind I am dying to assemble and paint up. It’s just too groovy. It will certainly fit my theme, and I’m gonna give it a shot when playtesting my list. If if does get thunderstomp it may make it not quite such a pushover. That said, it’s great to get advice from more venerable CD players.

Thorne:

Until you have one you will have no idea if it will fit your play style or your army but they do scare the pants of your enemies and draw a lot of fire. The case now could be can you afford not to try one out ?

spiderman5z:

im really tempted to run one too bc im imagining how much fun it would be to build and paint one up and use in a huge scale siege scenario

Loki:

I field mine when using a GT list its great just having it on the field and with my lord riding in it as well makes it a nasty beast

Mr Saturday:

Well, I have my first game with the dwarves o’ chaos this week, so I’m gonna stoke the furnace and give the old kolossus a whirl. I think running it with a lord or hero is the way to go. This bleedin’ expensive, but I just like the idea too much. Far as I can tell it should get thunderstomp if it’s a monster type.

Da Crusha:

Mr Saturday
perhaps the new WIP 8th ed FAQ/errata would answer the question. (I would post a link If I new where to find it x.x)

Mr Saturday:

Aw fudge, still, unbreakable now. Thanks for the link!

Mr Saturday:

I see the Kolossus is a monster now. Go Thuderstomp!
