[Archive] Lammasu with cracked/ lava skin?

Grimstonefire:

I have been working on a lammasu in recent weeks (not for Golden Hat btw), and I’m stuck on what do do for the skin?

I’ve sculpted the basic musculature quite smoothly, but I’ve been thinking a cracked effect like the balrog has would look cool(?) Or should I just leave it smooth?

He will have some armour plates as well (no mask).

Once I’ve baked one side, sculpted and baked the other and done most of the head I will take some photos.  I’m using super sculpey for the basic shape and greenstuff for any details and armour plates.

Baggronor:

I did a cracked lava Balrog skin effect on my eternally unfinished Taurus, I think it fits nicely. I’m not so sure about the Lammasu, as it isn’t immune to fire and so forth, but it would look cool. What would the alternatives be? Shaggy fur? Smooth skin?

Grimstonefire:

As I want him to have a mane (with the hair under the chin a little longer of course), the longer fur will continue back over the shoulders and under the neck a bit, except where there’s armour.

I did consider doing a fair bit more shaggy fur underneath on his belly and lower legs, but I have a cunning plan that may dictate the amount of longer fur…

Basically I want him to look like a cross between a CD and a BC that’s then been mutated into a lammasu.  Put another way he has bull rear legs, but the front legs will end in human like hands.  His neck area may be a little more human than bull, and his head will be a sort of cross between a balrog and a CD.  The front legs may have some unusual anatomy, depending on how it goes.

Sounds strange doesn’t it!  I’m curious to see how my ideas will turn out.

He’s actually a lot bigger than I originally planned, about 25mm wide at the saddle (35mm wide overall), about 45mm tall and around 70mm long (including head)!  The wings will be about 100mm. He’s a real beast.

m3lvin:

As much as I want to help you, I really can’t since I dont want to spoil even more

I just have to say that the mutated BC/CD idea seems like a cool/interesting idea, It makes me eager to see some pics

As baggronor said, It would be a little wierd fluffwise to have lava under his skin, but being a mythical creature immune to magic, there could be other cool effects on his body.

If your mounting a fire sorcerer on him, I would see no problem having lava-skin on him.

The rider could either had blessed him, or making a spell which pulsate through his body, etc.

I’m afraid I got the same problem myself, I should really had looked at the statline before I started to sculpt :~

But hey, when there’s great tauruses, why cant their be great Lammasus? :cheers

black hammer:

I agree with m3lvin, the cracked lava skin would be great if it was being ridden by a fire sorcerer.

Ishkur Cinderhat:

I find cracked skin and glow effects generally fit nicely with chaos dwarfs. The Lammasu being a magical creature though I’d go for more Tzeentchian colours, blue and green maybe? It could still have a granite / obsidian skin though and the mane would also work fine as magical fire.

Skink:

Yeah, as Ishkur said craked/glowing/fire effects fits well chaos dwarfs. However, being the lammasu a magical creature why don’t you make it glowing with a strange color, such as green or blue, or (why not?) purple. Even if purple is a bit more Slaaneshy…

This way it looks like it can bear the magic energies roiling inside its body.

Erm.. isn't that what I said?

Kera foehunter:

so grim are you having the the craked skin coming up the legs ??or just on the back of it

i think it a great idea grims !!

i think a lava bace and the lava coming up it legs give it a more deamon look

Ps don’t bake cookies when you doing the model you may eat the wronge one

Kera foehunter:

Grims have there been any progress on this idea !!
