I have paid and entered my first tournament back in the game and it is 2500pts and so i think i will take my Chaos Dwarfs.
Here is the list I have put together
Sorcerer Prophet- Level 4-Lore of Hashut. Enchanted Shield, Chalice of Blood and Darkness, Talisman of Preservation
Dark Castellan- BSB, shield and Mask of the Furnace
Daemonsmith- level 2 with Charmed shield and dispel scroll
Daemonsmith- Shield of Ptolos
Hobgoblin Khan on Wolf with light armour shield sword of might and potion of foolhardiness
Hobgoblin khan on wolf with light armour and shield plus dragon helm
33 Infernal Guard with full command and razor standard
20 Hobgobs with bows and muso
20 Hobgobs with bows and musos
Magma Cannon
Death shrieker
Iron Daemon- hellbound
Hellcannon
The plan is to place the Iron daemon on one flank and the hellcannon on the other. Have one daemonsmith babysit the hellcannon and the other one sit with the magma cannon and deathshrieker. Sorcerer Prophet goes in the Infernal Guard along with the BSB. flanked by the Hobgoblin units. The Khans go out and redirect/ war machine hunt/ ethereal hunt etc etc.
having so many wizards for so few warmachines jumps out as just not good. I would either drop the irondemon for other warmachines to maximize the potential of your demonsmiths, or drop a demonsmith and use the points for something else, additionally having lvl2 upgrades for smiths when using a lvl4 is likely a waste because you are going to be chucking all your dice trying to get your good lvl4 spells off every phase.
Very decent list, pretty standard. I like it and you are gonna have some great fun! The only change I would do is to give the Castellan a great weapon. It’s a matter of some debate of cause, shield or GW.
But: I like my BSB to be have the ability to kill an opponent in a challenge. Because I don’t want my general in a challenge and the champion might die fast. His BSB skill doesn’t help him if he declines.
The luckstone (5pts) for a re-roll failed armor save is great on either general or bsb (allmost a free wounds because of all their armor).
The Iron Curse Icon (5pts) is a must have on either BSB or general. 6+ wardsave against warmachines! That regiment is ound to be hit by boltthrowers, cannons, catapult etc. I’ll earn itself many times over in most of the games.
Remember the daemonsmiths have a Look out Sir near warmachines (and hellcannon) on 2+, so they are not really in danger from shooting right away.
A thing to consider is putting the chalice on a daemonsmith and taking the Earthning Rod on your lvl 4 general. I’ve lost my general to ad dice too many times - and that re-roll on miscast table is nice to have. But it’s a matter of taste (and how many games in a row your prophet has een sucked into the warp! while blowing up 200 points of infernal guard).
You tactic will work fine. I do stuff much the same way.
Is disagree with Sam585 on the amount of re-rolls. Having a re-roll for both death rocket and hellcannon is fantastic! Getting two shots at turning that scatter dice into a hit every turn - and securing your magma cannon.
I would leave both daemonsmiths at level 1. 1 with lore of fire (for long range fireballs) and 1 with lore of metal (for searing doom on all knights and steam tanks).
