Renowned in dread Norscan sagas, the twin-headed, hulking Ettins are terrors of the high places. They dwell in lonely caverns and shattered citadels, splattered with the blood of their victims and carrying their stigma as a curse under whose torment they are bound to eternally suffer, despising all else that walks or crawls in the world.
While of a similar stature to the lumbering giants of the Old World, a Curs?Td Ettin can be easily identified by its singular deformities and cruel intellect; born so it is said of an ancient treachery against the Dark Gods themselves, for whom they reserve their most bitter hatred.
The Curs?Td Ettin, designed by Edgar Skomorowski, is a full resin monster packed with amazing detail, from its grotesquely twisted form to the jagged chunk of warpstone clutched in one hand as a primitive weapon. The Curs?Td Ettin is available to pre-order now for despatch in the week commencing 28th November, and experimental rules for this rapacious creature are available to download now, taken from the forthcoming Warhammer Forge Monstrous Arcana expansion book.
This sculpt is thousands light years better than the Chaos Siege Giant. Plus, it will look awesome in a Beastmen army! It can really make the difference, especially if you are sick of seeing the same, usual, slightly converted Warhammer Giant. Which I am.
Skomorowski got the anatomy and skin texture right on this one, by the looks of the pictures. It’s simple in terms of lacking lots of decoration, but it is all the better for it.
this one’s a much better incarnation of a giant than any i’ve seen so far, and the best is- it has got usable rules! great work wf for the rules, and edgar: wieder mal fantastische arbeit! weiter so und danke!
What does “curs?Td” mean? I’m assuming it’s a contraction of “cursed”, but it isn’t one that’s been used the invention of the printing press (it appears in Early Modern English and before, for example, long before people started spelling things consistently).
“Curséd” is pronounced “curse-edd” and it a more archaic version. It’s the way it might be said in a really cheesy fantasy movie if they were reading a prophecy on an ancient scroll or something. It’s on sort of the same level as chucking in “thee” and “thou”. It’s what people think Shakespearean language is like.
I think this “curs’d” thing is an attempt to evoke that sort of silly olde-worlde vibe, but they realised that “Curséd Ettin” sounded ridiculous.

I'm not sure they would have even made it far enough along that line of thinking to make it to curséd.
I think you're spot on with the name being an attempt to evoke an olde worlde comprised of illiterate masses and semi-illiterate trades people who would be trying to write the names of these things as best they could. Just look at Chaucer for example. What an annoying old git. He spelled everything like he was a dim-witted four-year-old. My daughter put her imaginary Chaucer in a time-out the other day. Good thing for him too, I find him irritating.
Wow, one of the most unnerving and strange sculpts FW has churned out in the recent years. I really like it for all its strangeness (and the cool rules). This one will at last turn your beastmen army totally incompatible with kids, if it wasn’t already.
BTW I quite naturally read curs’d as cursed. Guess the archaic form was just chosen for effect.
I thinkest this sculpt to be one of the best Warhammer Forge hast produced. Thou wouldst think, when looking upon the face of the new chaos giant, that WF hast reached new heights of quality.
It’s interesting to note that everyone keeps saying this is a Chaos Giant but the description says that they “reserve their most bitter hatred” for the dark gods which seems to indicate that despite their mutation are anythign but chaos giants.
I’m not saying it’s a chaos giant, I’m only comparing the quality of both sculpts… I really (quite the understatement) dislike the chaos giant, while I like this one.

Do they mean "curséd" do you think?

No I honestly think they are trying to be clever and stuff. Really cheesy fantasy movie would be spot on for GW I'd say.
