[Archive] Links to our chaotic counterparts

Zanko:

I have just noticed that the links to our chaotic counterparts no longer work.

Here are the new links:

Chamber of the Everchosen

The Daemonic Legion

The Herdstone

Maybe one of the moderators or administrators can fix the actual links!

Nicodemus:

Always so painful to remember where this is to edit… took about 40 minutes to find it. SO out of practice!! Had to go in through the admin section and hunt that way as the manual way of searching for the file via SSH connection was impossible.

Anyway, links updated. Thanks Zanko!!

tjub:

As far as I can tell those forums are dead?

Maybe change the links to more relevant places like:

https://www.tga.community

https://www.kowforum.com

etc.

Admiral:

Good catch, Zanko! Thanks for going through the labour, Nicodemus! And good point, tjub!

Chaos Dwarfs Online is the only Chaos Star forum that’s alive and kicking. The others are lifeless, I can confirm. Perhaps they never were such creative hotspots as CDO in the first place, and so the steps to demise were that much fewer to take?

The idea of replacing the Chaos Star links with larger ones that are alive out there should be pursued. The Chaos Star banner can be archived as part of the restoration efforts (to be resumed this autumn) since it look nice.

I’m not at all at home in the world of forums outside the old army forums and Warseer, so how would this full list look like? Should there be major Facebook groups as well as forums, such as Age of Sig Zharr? Warseer forums is probably too drained of its old high activity to make the cut.

Let’s club our heads together and come up with a list to replace the Chaos Star banners with! Please fill in with proposals:

Facebook Groups

And if any old army forums should be included, then I can vouch especially for Lustria Online. Exemplary site that is well alive and kicking! Lizardmen never were left out in the cold like we were, and even so they’re a creative hobby hub. Impressive!

Zanko:

I must confess that I am a little helpless concerning a meaningful linking with other forums. I didn’t realize that the old chaos forums were dead when I clicked through them.

A link with general forums (i.e. those forums which represent all factions / peoples) is good in itself, but not in the old frame as with the 3 old chaos forums.

Maybe you should just link the 3 dead forums to a “RIP” page.

The other new general forums could then simply be pinned to a different location.

So much for my spontaneous thoughts!

Admiral:

No worries, Zanko! We’re grateful for the help.

I just happened to know the other Chaos forums are sadly dead, since I post product news, artworks and share interesting finds on other hobby forums. Otherwise I wouldn’t have a clue. CDO is my hobby home. But it’s good to keep the site’s links working in the first place, so please keep your spontaneous thoughts coming!

Admiral:

Besides, perhaps we should include Eighth Edition For Life in the new link banners? It’s rather big and has got Chaos Dwarf players on it. Any other sites that spring to mind? Please speak up if you know of any site, folks.

tjub:

Doesn’t really matter to me what the exact links might be, but I do think they should be to active forums etc.

Admiral:

The Red Devil over on Lustria Online has been kind enough to provide us with four variants to pick one from, if we decide to include that other great creative hobby hub army forum among our link-banners (I think we shall because it is one-of-a-kind and deserves to be recognized as such in these times of old forum die-off, but you say):

Which one do you prefer? Also which of these two raw banners (text to be added) do you aesthetically prefer for T9A forum? The rightmost would be in keeping with Chaos Star banner format.

We’re also getting good help from Frederick Berthelsen, administrator over on Kings of War forum. We’re just awaiting permission from Mantic to use one of their artworks. He’ll report when he hears from his higher-ups.

Still awaiting responses from other sites.

tjub:

The Lustria banners aint working?

Regarding 9th Age, I think Id go for the left one with the sword. Depending on text of course, but the right pic doesn’t really say much except being a great artwork of course.

Good job pulling the strings here Admiral! :hat off

tjub:

Oh, nice. Id go for the second Lustria banner. Almost looks kinda CD…

Zanko:

Goog work Admiral! :hat off

I like all 4 Lustria banners, the 4th maybe the most … :stuck_out_tongue:

                     :hashut

Admiral:

2 and 4 up for grabs, then. :hat off

I have not hard back yet, but I know they are hard at work either at the UK championship this weekend, or simply working on the arrival of 3rd edition.

I suggest that you use this artwork, and I will take responsibility if something happens later. The fact is, I got this after asking for art to make posters of, to use for promoting the game. So this would most likely fall under “promoting the game” I would say.

The artwork:

Simple copy-paste into MS Word says that our link-banners are 82x217 pixels. So that is the dimensions we’ll play with

This is a proposal raw banner for Kings of War forum. Text to be added (to the left half):

Would you like the banner to be cropped differently from the artwork? Please show us if so.

Cheers

tjub:

That banner looks great Admiral! :hat off
The artwork is from 1st ed KoW, so I agree with Fred. Probably ok with them to use it…

Zanko:

Yep! The banner really looks great! :cheers
