Blue in VT:
So for the final round of the Lead Painters League at the LAF the theme was Movie…and Bonus Points were awarded if you met the theme, and for an opposing force for your first team…there were also bonus points if you could get a vehicle done too…but I was not able to…;P So I scrambled around to find something that would work…then recalled a conversation that I had had with dncswlf about his Star Wars figure collection…and he was kind enough to let me “borrow” a few of his pieces for the contest.
And here they are:

They were fun…and frustrating to paint. The color schemes are fairly straight fwd…which was nice…but the detail on the faces are a bit dodgy on some of the figures…plus realistic 25mm figures seem REALLY small compared to Heroic 28mm GW style fig. Darth didn’t photgraph so well…and three shades of black are just a pain in the ass to paint…but over all I’m pretty happy with how they came out…and I hope dncswlf is as well!
Cheers,
Blue

very cool! nice paint job
GRNDL:
Are those the old Grenadier SW models? A good friend of mine donated all of his boxed sets to me- there’s a crazy amount of models and they look pretty good too. I pulled out a few models - Boba Fett and Bossk - but have yet to fully complete them. I wanted to base them “interestingly” but the models don’t lend themselves to complex basing unfortunately.
I think your paint job has done them justice, sir! :cheers

GRNDL,
These Figures were produced by West End Miniatures in the late 80's...and they have quite an extensive range...they are currently OOP and go for decent money on ebay. Yeah basing them is difficult...I had to compromise...and go with the Desert theme for all of them...even though the Imperial Navy officer would probably never see the surface of Tatooine....not the Great Darth himself...but I wanted a cohesive look for the "team" BTW these are mounted on pennies...though Darth was upgraded to a nickel due to his larger base.
Cheers,

Yeah, those are the ones, though they were made by Grenadier to support WEG's Star Wars RPG. Still a better feeling RPG than the D20 version WoTC put out later, IMO. I faced the exact same dilemma that you did. I wanted to slice the minis off the base, but their size makes that very hard. For the Fett mini I started, I trimmed the base as much as I could to the feet and began sculpting around that. I wanted him to be on a bit of scrap deck plating - something at least in theme with the character. I should finish him off one day... Maybe for this BS event?

;) Yes he is. I'm not sure if I have the entire set of Boxed miniatures from the range, but I have a lot. My friend gave them to me saying "I'm never going to paint them, but you might..." That was a long, long time ago.

Chewie does look very tall standing alonside all those minis, but in comparison to the photo (see below) he looks about right to me.
nitroglysarine:
