[Archive] Looking for advice 2.5 to 3k

Greetings! I have a 3k battle comming up against Ogres or Daemons. I ran a really good 2.5k list against my mates ogres that i will post below. Now we are upping the points to 3k so i was thinking of adding a hellcannon, beefing the IG unit up to 30, beefing up the hobgoblin unit to 40 and dropping their bowss, adding another 10 man fireglaive unit… anyway here is the 2.5k list, let me know where i’m lacking and what i should add/change for 3k, thx.

At 3,000 points, I think he’ll chaff up your dangerous units and be hitting your dwarfs & war machines on turn 2. You need a lot more deployment drops.

I also think that the skullcracker on your ID is not worth it.

Also, I would a deathshrieker or a magma cannon and add in two units of 5 wolf riders. I agree with Grim. You need more drops, and you need something with speed to help you gum up the battlefield in your favor. Otherwise, drop the K’daai and add a third magma cannon and a second hellcannon. Then bump up your combat blocks. Drop the Fireglaives and reduce the size of your HW/S IG and create a second block of great weapon IG.

Either go gunline, or don’t, but right now you straddle the line. Against Ogres, with fewer drops, I’m sure this worked great. But with daemons coming up, I think you’ll find yourself in a bunch of bad matchups due to better movement and deployment of the DoC.

If it’s possibile having both i’LL always buy skullcracker on iron daemon! Lot of hordes band Nurgle in my meta xD

With all the great advice i present my next list :wink: The battle will be 3k vs Daemons. My mate could take anything to be honest but he is fond of big nurgle blocks, death magic and big nasty stuff. Only chaff he regularly uses are beasts of nurgle :wink:

So the basic plan is to castle up with the hobgoblin units and khans acting as speedbumps/redirectors. line anchored on each side with hellcanons so noone can flank charge my large IG unit. I think my biggest concern is purple sun and the likes. Also Slaanesh magic with choir etc. I have the 2 daemonsmiths to mess up his magic phase with a dispel scroll, chalice plus 3 channels. I’m thinking of dropping a unit of hobgobbos and adding double handed weapons on my IG but against his plagubearers (if he even takes them) we will strike at the same time and i would get 4+6++ or at least a 6+ from his poison. As is, they are very durable so i’m thinking i will keep them as is. I have 9 drops at the moment and plenty of chaff and redirectors to mess up his movement phase. Any suggestions? Our battle will be in about 7 hours so i’ll write up how it went over the next few days.

Pre battle trash talk began a few hours ago. My spies have informed me of a large horde of Slaanesh troops will be graceing the battlefield…

Ok so everything went a little haywire. His forces included a lv4 Slaanesh dp shadow caster, a combat Slaanesh dp, 64 Daemonettes with 2 heralds inc bsb, 2 skull cannons, soulgrinder, about 8 fiends of slaanesh with herald on Steed of slaanesh and ASF.

Highlights:

My Prophet Miscast on turn 1 killing about 22 IG and loosing 2 wounds after he failed his toughness test. Next turn he miscast again and destroyed everyone else except the bsb :wink: turn 3 he miscast again and lost 2 levels. He killed the lv4 dp in closecombat with his 1 wound. badass.

Destroyer got multicharged by the fiends of Slaanesh (they had mind razor on them and ASF from the herald), Combat dp, lv4 dp, skill canon and survived 3 turns…

Skull canons dominated my warmachines killing a magma canon, hellcanon and a deathshrieker.

My Khans were dam great. They got a few charges off on the Skullcanons holding them up for 2 turns of combat each! I really underestimated them, Khans are the bomb. They also march blocked the large unit of daemonettes.

At the end of turn 6 the unit of 64 daemonettes with herald and bsb never entered combat and were wittled down to about 10 models. Deathshriekers and magma canons make short work of the speedy daemons.

Hobgoblin combat unit with shields are dam good. They even caused a few wounds on a soulgrinder.

Hobgobo archers would of been handy if he had more chaff so they were kind of wasted, they took potshots at the soulgrinder and skullcannons all game…

The caster dp just steamrolled a flame canon, 2 Daemonsmiths, a deathshrieker until he was met in combat by my prophet. I got super lucky to take him out.

All in all i didn’t win but for my 2nd CD game i wasn’t too fussed, my mate had one of the best armies to take a CD army out, can anyone say 20 inch march?
