[Archive] Looks like this could be Zonk

theforgefather:

I just saw this on dakka, another russian user, and his style looks very much like Zonk’s…

I am very sorry if it is not, but the style of all his minis just look too similar.

Thommy H:

Hm…could be. It looks as much like Scibor as anything though. All these Eastern Europeans making their resin knock-offs look the same to me though.

Da Crusha:

mmm, I don’t really think so. I was never impressed with the zonk casts. These look kinda different to me. the writing style seems similar but that could just be a russian accent.

JMR:

I think it’s him.

Zonk was active on The Bolter and Chainsword, a 40K forum a year ago or so. I’ve warned the members there at the time.

On Bolter and Chainsword (B&C) he showed off various Space Marine models. Here’s a few threads where he’s been posting stuff:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/246077-librarian-in-terminator-armour/

Wolves - + SPACE WOLVES + - The Bolter and Chainsword

Grand Master Belial - + DARK ANGELS + - The Bolter and Chainsword

Grossmeister. Knights of a black temple.) - + BLACK TEMPLARS + - The Bolter and Chainsword

Librarian Dreadnought - + BLOOD ANGELS + - The Bolter and Chainsword

I’ve listed the threads in order of importance when comparing them to his posts on DakkaDakka. There’s a few things that stand out to me;

- The way he talks and posts. Zonk spoke through Google translate, but it’s also in the way he shows off examples with pictures, like he does with the bunker casting tutorial on DakkaDakka.

- The way he does rivets with small ball bearings.

- The overall style of the sculpts.

- I’m not familliar with 40K models, so the details like the shield, the wings on the top of his standard and the icons on his greaves might be taken from GW models with a press-mold. However, said items on the model below look an awfully lot like details on models posted on B&C.

Compare this post on DakkaDakka with the models shown here on B&C. Is that shield not -exactly- the same (bar the icon sculpted on)? The bare, bearded head looks an awfully lot alike too, if not the same.

All in all too many coincidences in my opinion. Has he hinted at taking orders yet on Dakka?

Da Crusha:

@JMR: hmm, perhaps you are right. Honestly I never took much interest in his work.

gIL^:

I think it is. Looks exactly like it including the recast of the terminator backpack.

They must be warned

All those points were what led me to believe it's Zonk. I think we need to tell people if it is, so they don't get ripped off like many of us here did.

Zanthrax:

Thanks for the heads up.
