[Archive] Made to order!

Skink:

Have you ever heard of the Astropate? It’s an Italian blogger that publishes rumors & background articles about Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40k, and Age of Sigmar.

Now, this guy has a solid 99% accuracy rate with his rumors, and on facebook he just posted that GW is going to launch a “made to order” service the 15th of October. Basically, they will reprint old models on request. It’s not like they will keep a stock of old models for sale, they will reprint them upon order.

I suspect that we will see old stuff like Juan Diaz’s Daemonaettes, the Teutogen Guard, maybe Necromunda models… This sounds soooo good  !!!

EDIT: Maybe Bretonnia/Tomb Kings are going to be available again…???

I read some rumor of this some time ago, but it was rather vague, without date or content.

If minis are produced on demand only this will probably mean a higher price level. On the other hand you could get single minis missing in a collection. Interesting will be how they are produced.

Indeed, but this would kill the speculators market on Evil Bay. Have you seen the prices for Teutogen Guard / Juan Diaz's Daemonettes recently? Insane.

Dînadan:

Sounds like wonderful news if it’s true. Any details on how it’ll operate? E.g. Will the full back catalogue (or at least those whose molds haven’t been destroyed/deteriorated with age) be available, or just a select few? If only a few will they rotate them out every so often? As molds are used to cast multiple minis at a time, will you have to wait until enough people have ordered that mini before they cast it, or will they cast it and put the spares aside ready for the next people to order? What material will they use, resin or white metal?

If they make a lot of old minis available and price them reasonably, I can see them making a killing and gutting the eBay market by undercutting all those people sell oop minis for stupidly high prices.

Wonder how viable it’d be for them to run a print on demand service of all the old rule books, army books and codices. Again, price them right and they’d make a killing undermine the second hand sales on eBay.

He didn't say, I asked him though. If he knows something he will answer for sure! Will keep you updated :)

Slavemaster Hod:

From what I’ve seen, it will be for the stuff that went on “last chance” on their site after the launch of AoS. If that is true, then there won’t be all the old stuff, just the stuff they phased out with AoS, but I am not 100% sure on this.

BolS says the same:

Grimbold Blackhammer:

Very cool news! If I get desperate, I may be forced to give $$$ to “they who shall not be named”. I really hope I don’t get that desperate though!!

Admiral:

At last! I long wondered why old archive models went unavailable only to rise significantly in price on Ebay. GW could as well produce new ones on demand, for an extra price, to undercut the auctioneers and take the cash for themselves. Having now started to sell cast miniatures of my own, I’ve become convinced GW should do this very thing.

Their current prices are a joke, but so are many Ebay prices. And I’d rather support new production of old favourites than constant recycling of OOP models if the price tag is essentially no different, or even cheaper for the new produce.

If this is true, it’ll be another feather in the hat for the new CEO. Even if it would not be profitable or sound business-wise at the end of the day, it’ll still gain back goodwill.

Skink:

Right! The guy doesn’t have any idea about what material they are going to use for the models, although he suspects that it’s going to be metal as:

A ) Apparently they just re-did some Lord of the Rings figures in metal, and
B ) They slowly retired all Finecast products from the store.

He doesn’t have any clue whether plastic kits are going to be recasted or not. Also, He says that they are not going to produce all old models at the same time. They will be released slowly over the course of the years.

Abecedar:

Interesting, but I’ll not lose any sleep until it eventuates

Bassman:

If it is true we must gather together and start carpet bombing them with requests of Chaos Dwarves! Big hat, old skool, hell cannon, whatever you like! :hat:hashut:mask:cheers

Tertius:

On the Bretonnian Round Table forum the report is that a Facebook announcement might happen around the ides of Oct.

Some hobgoblin spies should be dispatched to observe and report back.

Dînadan:

Just seen on FB that GW are asking for suggestions on what people would like to see next in the Made to Order service specifically in regards to AoS Forces of Order. Could we see a chance for Big Hats and hobgoblins to return via Made for Order when Chaos gets its turn in the spotlight?

Unzul:

it’s very difficult, imho…

Carcearion:

Can anyone post a link to their suggestion thread so we can weigh in?
