[Archive] Madness from the marshes - rise of a Nurgle army

TheHoodedMan:

Thank you guys :cheers.

You can help me what I should paint next (until end of April).

A demon prince (I use the Vilthiss Model from Mierce):

Some River trolls which I use as chaos trolls, a chariot drawn by a plague insect, a BSB (the nurgle General on daemonic steed)?

TheHoodedMan:

The river trolls were in my cupboard much too long. Painted them in one go to have a playable unit, hope you like it :hat off

Helblindi:

These look great! Why is that one troll’s eye on fire though?

Bloodbeard:

Wow! Those trolls are super cool. Goo job on those, really well painted.

Fuggit Khan:

Great looking unit! I really like the added touch of all the rust on the metal weapons, especially the rusted harpoon/hooked weapon. Perfectly done :cheers

Malorndk:

Just read this blog. Pretty fucking cool

TheHoodedMan:

Thank you, guys, much appreciated :cheers.

Helblindi
That should be not on fire but kind of swollen and septic. Ill treat this with a wash and perhaps "Nurgles rot" to make it more clear, thank you for the question!

Helblindi:

Ah, all right. Yes, then I think it’s still a bit too bright right now

Scar:

Nice work on those trolls!

Bloodbeard:

I got the septic infected effect right away - I didn't think fire. Looks like a troll who's had he's eye ripped out and doesn't think too much of that whole hygine business.

I like it.

Trolls regenerate allmost all injuries, but I don't see it as a quick magical "poof" regeneration. No. Oozing infected wound and bloody painful. That's the way to go - specially for nurgle guys!

And its only a chance of regeneration, so not every injury will quickly recover!

Great looking trolls!

TheHoodedMan:

Hi there,

some little progress, my Gutrot Spume is finished (the chaos hounds wip 90%):

Carcearion:

Wow! I love that miniature. The shading on the tenacles is really great.

Is that the new rust technical paint or do you have a technique?

TheHoodedMan:

Thank you for digging out this thread ;-). Yes that is ryza rust applied as in the according tutorial Video from gw. Indeed I built some more barbarians yesterday :-).

Carcearion:

I’m really impressed with how the technical paints look. I was really skeptical of them, but looking at peoples results they really seem to do what it says on the box.

Awesome, looking forward to seeing the nurgalized warriors! So much fun conversions and paint effects to do in service of the plague father.

Abecedar:

The trolls and all look great. My three are still hiding in the closet for several years too.

That Gutrot nurgle is disturbing. I do love the shading on the tentacles.

Could you tell us (me) how you did it. A couple of the old 3rd Ed models have some and they are nearing the top of the to-paint list

TheHoodedMan:

Thank you for your comments and questions.

The technical colors are well done from GW, although there are some effects from smaller companies, too, which are really good, mainly in the military model area (friend of mine has some of them, but they are rather time consuming sadly).

@Abecedar:

I used a normal skin tone, think it was Reikland flesh mainly, then Screamer pink as main color for the tentacle, fading it out with Genestealer purple and mixing in Pallid Wych flesh at the end.

This is painted wet in wet, using a wet palette. I simply put the four colors on 4 spots in a row and mixing them together at the “borders”. So I have the coloring of my tentacle right there in the palette and then transfer it to the model. It is important that the paint has the right consistency, a little fluent, but not watery.

At the flesh I used Reikland flesh shade and at the tentacle Carroburg Crimson (wash) as well after drying of the other colors. edit: I think I thinned the Crimson a little down with Lahmian Medium (sorry, it is some time ago).

edit: Then some highlights again after the washing.

Bloodbeard:

Worh! He is a true Nurgle Lord. Holy smokes. He looks so badass. Good work Hood. Nice miniature.

Have you done any conversion work on him?

TheHoodedMan:

No, I didnt.
That mini is from my point of view one of the best GW ever did. He is designed absolutely impressive, detailed, kit quality is great. He and the Blight Kings are the peak of the End Times Miniatures.
With 9th Age there are rules who make it possible to play him as a generic General (monstrous infantry, there is a Chaos Gift who does this) and add him to the unit of the Blight Kings. Thats my plan.
I have a rough 2500 pts list with the minis already in my possession. Im building the rest of my barbarians for this list (unit of about 30). But this is lots of work because every model must be pinned at least on 2 spots.

Bloodbeard:

I love the Blight Kings miniatures. In a time where I really dislike most of GWs releases, really bad looking style. But these guys are absolutely fantastic.

I wanted to get 2 of these kits for a Nurgle Army project. … but I’ll never get around to it. I have too many miniatures, projects, games going on.

So many bits in that set, would allow you to mod so many other nurgle dudes!
