[Archive] Magic Lore?

thewizardofoz:

Playing as game as Empire soon,

Not sure which lore to use.

I have experience of Death, Fire and Metal but not much else.

Advice? Your opinions?

Enemy? Your army list? Need to supplement it.

torn:

i have heard the phrase light council thrown about a bit

TheFNG:

Light! Google “Empire Light Council” and you’ll get a whole host of tactics for it. A very strong lore for Empire indeed! Good luck!

Time of Madness:

I think he is asking what lore he should take for his chaos dwarfs.

If that’s the case death is always a good option for character snipes.

Alternatively if your opponent fields a lot of knights I’d look at taking metal to get rid of those.

thewizardofoz:

No sorry, I didn’t explain this at all well did I? My fault for typing whilst multitasking

Soon I shall be using an Empire army for a small campaign game. I have never used Empire before so have a whole load of “what units should I use” to go through but my main problem is, the Empire can use any lore from the rulebook. That much choice makes my head spin, which lore is best?

I don’t know yet what units I will be using though I would imagine lots of infantry.

My opponents in this campaign will be High Elves and Undead.

Is this where ‘Light’ will come in handy?

ThorAxe:

Light council consists of a number of level 1 light wizards with a level 4 light wizard, as the banishment spell becomes stronger with more light-knowing wizards nearby. A number of the other spells are pretty good too, as WS10 I10 ASF with +1A hordes can be scary. The Arch Lector can ride whatever the pope-mobile is called and gives an additional cassting of banishment as a bound spell, allowing for potentially 2 banishments at high strength.

Otherwise, depends on your list for the lore you should take.

thewizardofoz:

Wow that sounds dirty - and people have the cheek to badmouth Chaos Dwarfs for being bent.

I think I have played against this before and yes can be very effective. The problem is, the campaign is only small to begin with - 1k and no lord levels allowed, so I am not sure the Light Council will be as beneficial as I could probably only get one Level 2 and two Level 1s in.

I am now thinking that maybe this could be a good opportunity to use a Lore I have very little experience of playing with or against. By looking in the book, ‘Lore of Life’ jumps out at me for being a good candidate - not many people take it and I have never used it myself.

So I suppose my next question is, what is good about Life?

Bloodbeard:

The lore of shadows is nasty. Was up against it the other day.

It has some great killing spells for taking out low initiative enemies. Those will suck up and kill war machines easy too, and everybody brings that.

Then there is the spells that lower the statlines of the enemy. I had one unit of IG getting minus 3 toughness every turn, making the enemies 30 archers worth a lot! And my other IG unit constantly lost movement, never making it into combat.

For an empire army this lore will also work good. Lowering enemy toughness will let a unit of spearmen deal a lot of damage and wqual the fight against WoC, orcs of dwarfs. And if you bring warmahines it’s great too. Try hitting a unit with the mortar after lowering enemy toughness.

Lowering movement is awesome for every army that brings something shooty to the table, buying you more turns.

I hadn't thought of that. Whenever I think Shadow, apart from doing the 'Apache' dance, I think of Mindrazor but actually you are right. With lots of WS3 S3 T3 infantry, spells that make them weaker and slower would be good.

Thanx man
