Just love their videos, seems these guys are insane! Just my kinda crowd.
Hope they keep up their good work, canât wait to see what the rules will be like.  Guess weâll get another video before october when theyâll reveal them.
If their minis continue to improve Mantic could be serious competitors. At the moment they are Waaaaaaaay behind GW, and TBH I prefer GWs products. Still, competition would be no bad thing.
Also, Wargames Factory is producing some stunning plastic models:

Those guys look very nice. Would be great for any Imperial guard army. They kinda remind me of the bad guys from the computer game Killzone.
Their elves are very good and getting better all the time. I agree GW needs some serious competition and they may be it.

The trouble for those wishing to compete with GW is not the quality of their rules set or their minis, it is exposure. GW have a very successful sales model with their hobby centres, gaming clubs, White Dwarf and online presence. They are always going to be most people's point of entry into wargaming. What they will have to start doing is working harder on customer retention.
We already talked a bit about this in the Mantic Dwarf thread - and I must say Iâm pretty curious to see what rule set they could come up with. If the both have rules and cheap bulk miniatures  - they might be able to threaten GWs position in a few years. Donât know if thatâs a good or bad thing - really??
And the âWargames factoryâ !!! - before you get too excited about these ⌠have you seen the glued together??
I think any competitor that threatens GW is good, as it would weaken their iron grip on the market.
The problem for most competing firms to GW is that they are probably about 10-15 years behind them in terms of mould making capabilities for plastic sprues.  This makes them the biggest and best army building company outside of historical gaming.
The warmachine or hordes models Iâm sure would sell considerably more if they had affordable boxed plastics on sprues (I know they do a few plastic things, but as they are bitz packed they could be missing parts).
Mantic will inevitably run into issues when it gets to a certain size, but in the meantime they are doing very well.

Some disturbing proportions here!

With the exceptions of the hands, I don't see too big a problem. Sure, the head looks a tad big compared to the size of the torso, but with a respirator and a helmet on, you look like a bobble head in real life too.
I see lots of problems with these - first heads, this is actually the best one the other look even worse. Shoulders, hardiy any joint to the body, hands, like you said - and then it looks so top heavy - that you think heâll fall over - but they are cheap - and probably great for bulk up an IG army.
And back on topic:
For those (like me that think this is an interesting turn in that Mantic business) Ronnie Renton and Alessio gave an interview with to *Beast of warâ about the upcomming Mantic box set (coming out in October) - 100 miniatures, two armies (dwarfs - undead), dice, rules ⌠and priced at ÂŁ40, ďż˝,ďż˝55 $65
lets be honest these guys are waaaay cooler then GW and not anywhere near as stuffy.

They are like how GW used to be in the past, probably because Mantic consists out of a lot of ex-GW. GW got big and has grown up and fell in the hands of tough businessmen. Most of the guys who made GW fun have left over the years. Hopefully Mantic will stay true to their fans...
One thing to keep in mind that in many ways GW has become a lumbering giant that cant get out of its way sometimes. The smaller competitors can react much more quickly to market forces. GW insists on plodding along with their secretive release schedule and then they wonder why pirating of rules is such a problem.

GW makes nice minis, (they also produce some stinkers: most recent Minotaurs anyone?) but the Avatars of War are getting better all the time. GWâs sole strength over everyone else in the industry is the IP⌠Now with that said equaling the minis is not enough for a competitor, they need to equal the IP.
