[Archive] Mantic Orcs as Hobgoblins?(1)

Groznit Goregut:

Hi All,

I was just looking on the Mantic site and noticed their Orcs.  I don’t like 'em as Orcs as they are too different from the GW ones that I already have a ton of.  But…I noticed they were a bit hunched over…

Maybe do a head swap with a Goblin or maybe Gnoblar heads?  They could work.  You can get a lot of them cheap.  You can even get guys with two hand weapons!

Hazkar:

imo they are a little bit to bulky for hobbos, but give it a try, maybe it works

Groznit Goregut:

Capt. Mogrim tested these out for me and he was pretty happy with the results!

ryanamandaanna:

Those do seem to have a completely different feel with the goblin heads… can we get a shot of them next to something else GW-ish for reference?

I agree, they look a lot better than I expected.  But judging from the round base section, and comparing that to my mantic dwarfs, they look HUGE for hobgoblins.

Groznit Goregut:

I’ve asked.  I’m surprised it looks as good as it does. I think the armor looks pretty good. I know they traditionally wear robes, but the armor does look good ornate. I think it would look even better with the more ornate Abyssal Dwarfs.  It is a lot less work than using Skaven, but they will be bigger.  The Skaven are more crouched over.  The guy who took the picture over on Da Warpath is calling them Grozgoblins since I came up with the idea!  :D

Groznit Goregut:

Here you go, took a quick pic today. The GW orc on the right got a Mantic arm to test if they work both ways. So, the proportions between Mantic & GW orcs are a bit skewed, but ye're not planning on using them as much.

tjub:

I like the one with the Grot head, it should work just fine…

sparrow:

These look remarkably good. I would be tempted to cut a millimeter off the legs at the point they join the boot, just to take off their height a little.

Groznit Goregut:

@tjub: Yep, the request was to have the Mantic Orc next to a GW Orc. So, my source took a pic of a GW orc, a Mantic Orc, and a Mantic Orc with a Gobbo head between them. There is an earlier picture with just Mantic Orcs w/ Gobbo heads.

Yes, I agree that they look quite good. I’m surprised, but pleased. I agree that they are tall, but to be honest, I’m lazy. I’m thinking of about 100 or so Hobgoblins in my army list and I’m thinking of doing them all at once. I’m not going to cut the legs down on every, single one.

snowblizz:

Bah! I call that lack of commitment. And you call yourself a Dawi. For shame. wink wink

Rolemodeld:

Ill have to try this…

fattdex:

i tried them out with resin hobgoblin heads on, but i wasn’t happy with the look compared to using plague monk bodies. I will use the weapon arms and shields from them on plague monks however.

JonJon:

Where do you get the goblin heads from?
