[Archive] Marble painting advice

vulcanologist:

Hi, anyone got any good advice or know of any good tutorials for painting marble?

Grimbold Blackhammer:

I’ve used this in the past. Best tutorial I’ve ever come across as far as marble goes though admittedly it took me three practice runs on some bases to get it right.

Thanks Grimbold! That’s exactly what I was looking for!

Zuh-Khinie:

Wow… that’s an amazing tutorial!!!

Taurian:

That is an amazing tutorial with fantastic results. I don’t quite know of many applications where I would find it handy, though. Out of curiosity, vulcanologist, what was the application for which you needed this information?

Was trying to create a petrified sorcerer who had succumbed to the sorcerers curse. My first attempt has been unsuccessful though. The marble effect looks good on flat areas of the mini but not so hot on detailed areas like the beard! Will give it another go but if I’m not happy with the result I’ll just do him granite!

I still don't know enough about chaos dwarves yet to be familiar with the sorcerer's curse of turning to stone. Granite does sound like a better choice, though, in terms of how he will end up looking. Alternatively, the other choice there which I thought might look good on a chaos dwarf would be that red marble--I think would match pretty well with the patterns of lava flows that often accompany the chaos dwarf environs, and the reddish color only suits this too well.
