[Archive] Marduk's WIP Bull Centaurs

Marduk:

I’m posting pictures of my WIP Bull Centaur Renders before I begin working on their beards. Hopefully they will be complete before the end of April. Three of them will be a command group. The other will be a Taur’ruk.

I want it to be very obvious that they are supposed to be heavily armoured as specified by the rules. I have made very slow progress so far but the armour of the bull part is almost complete. I’ll try to put some armour on their arms as well.

I’ll appreciate any comments and suggestions.

bigdark:

Your scale armor is amazing, did you use a pre-patterned tool, or free hand?

My first suggestion would be to post your images with imgur.com and imbed them.

My second suggestion would be to put some armor plating over their abdomen. Abs are sexy, but plate takes the hits - and as I understand it is more appropriate to the model.

Lastly, and I have no idea how to go about executing it - try to bulk up the hooves a little bit, they appear slender. It wouldn’t take much additional material, and you appear quite handy with greenstuff.

Kera foehunter:

I love the great scale armor too.

Zanko:

The guys look great! Kudos! :hat off

Now I’m curious to see them finished and painted! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Marduk:

Thanks to all for your feedback.

Bigdark:

I agree about the hooves and the abs. I regret not having done the hooves before gluing the model to the base. I don’t know if I have enough room for the sculpting tool now. I’ll try to do at least the front hooves.

I did the sexy abs and pecs before doing the scale armour. It was not necessarily intended to be final so I’m open to suggestions. I needed to feel in the space in the gut of the original ogre to visualize the anatomy of the centaur before doing the scale armour; the abs were a consequence of shaping the green stuff in that area. Now that the scale armour is finished I could consider doing a breast plate, although I still don’t know how to do it. I wouldn’t do plate armour only on the abdomen because then it would look like a gut plate and the model would be just a mutant ogre with an extra pair of legs. I think the plate would cover the pecs and abdomen.

The scale armour is free hand with a standard sculpting tool. I’d explain how I did it if I knew how to make a video and post it on CDO, but this type of technology is not one of my strengths. Even the image embedding is new to me, thanks for the tip.

Ah, thanks for honoring the slave donation. I feel very proud.

Thanks also to Kera and Zanko. What do you think? Breast plate or sexy abs? Should the breast plate cover only the front of the torso or also the back?

Zanko:

You should use / create a breast plate (not to huge) which should cover parts of the torso, not the back!

Another option is to make a new armour (perhaps chain mail) for the torso -

I’m not sure but personally I would perfer a breast plate!

Just like here:

The big problem is that now the armor looks unnatural. Look at the U shape of the front of the skirts, why this shape? Look at the belts, they interrupt innaturally like the belts go underneath the abs… I’d go for a breast plate to leave the pectorals on view (you did a great job here). Maybe with X-crossing leather straps/chains and some shoulder pads.

To not confuse them with mutated ogres shape the paltes like the FW centaurs http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer/CHAOS_DWARFS/CHAOS_DWARF_BULL_CENTAUR_RENDERS.html

and add beard and mustaches, of course!
