Casting big things requires a lot of materials. This looks like a decent method to hold the shape of something without requiring a lot of mold rubber.

This looks almost excessively involved and complicated. A 12 step process for a two part mold. However, I can’t argue with the results. Just that there are better ways of making a 2-part mold like that if you’re willing to make or find the right container rather than turn the container into a mold itself.
