[Archive] Mattbird's Dwarfs of Chaos army blog

mattbird:

so, I’ve become inspired to pull out my old Chaos Dwarf army and redo the whole shebang, both to get it up to my current level of painting, and to make it work for the Indy GT book. Initially I though I could get away with just a rebase and some new banners, but once I got my brushes out, I ended up repainting 50% of the model. This is now the 3rd time I will have painted over these exact same models!

:o

anyway, will post pics here as they get done. This is the test model, just needs some touchups and a spray of matte varnish:

Here is a link to what the army looks like at the moment:

Zanko:

Great army and really cool Blunderbuss guy! :hat off

I like the paint scheme of your Blunderbus guy and especially the colour his skin! :cheers

The army is cool with many highlights only the nearly classic 5th edition paint schemes of the CD units are not mine.

Too much comic-style for my liking.

The painting technique is great (for my sense) … what can you improve despite details! :o

I’m jealous of your skills! :stuck_out_tongue:

Tarrakk Blackhand:

You’re off to a good start! Sometime in the future, you’ll have 7 pages too!

Grimstonefire:

No wonder it’s taking ages to paint, are you doing the whole thing as NMM?

If that is indeed NMM I think you will need to be careful with any grey highlighting that is not metal (like on the beard) to make sure there is a clear difference.

mattbird:

Yeah, I’ve been painting NMM exclusively for years. I have the same concerns about the beard, but I think if I keep the beards very dark, it should be OK? I am mostly waffling on the skin color…

dncswlf:

The army looks fine right now! Are you totally changing the paint scheme? the new blunderbuss looks great! I like his greenish tainted skin, nice touch!

Loki:

Great work on the army it looks ace

Baggronor:

Nice, I like the bold highlights

The only thing I would say is what about some directional lighting from the lava, or at least reflection on the metal (you seem confident with NMM so I doubt it would be too hard). NMM with lava reflections would rock (may also drive you insane though).

Kera foehunter:

nice start !! i like your color that you have chosen!!
