[Archive] Metal vs Plastic figures

Kera foehunter:

Which do you like better metal plastic???

Ghrask Dragh:

It’s a tough one, one one hand I find that paint takes alot better to metal mini’s and they are alot stronger, it’s nice to have a bit of wieght to a finished mini, just feels alot safer. The plastics are alot easier to convert and are much easier to repair if you should drop them.

I would vote metal!

(why don’t you add a pole to this thread?)

hat fanatic:

i would easily vote for plastic it’s allot easier to convert and i find it’s easier to paint. also if you drop it pieces don’t break of as easy.

Kera foehunter:

I like metal the figure give a better look when painted .But hard to convert

Tallhat:

Tough one. But Id say plastic for rank-and-fileand metal for Characters and very special units.

Agreed. Plastics have come a long way, but metal then to be the better figures. Also another overlooked is that (generally) plastic is cheaper. Plastic is also easier to convert.

minty:

I’d say both, plastic is far more workable but looks a lttle worse, whereas metal is less workable but looks better

tough one there, Anti-tallhat

AGPO:

Plastic FTW! I like the metal models but I want unique centre piece models and I don’t like the identically posed units of metal troops, just looks lame IMO. Unique models everytime, and with the power of Greenstuff they don’t have to be that much worse quality than metal. Only thing I would say is plastic faces aren’t as good

Lumpy:

Metal, It is both the most Dwarven of the options and well it is just an extravagent display of wealth to showcase an army of all metal models. esspecially if its a chaos dwarf slave army with a minimum of 200 hobgoblins.

But yes seriously i would have to concure and agree that plastic is better, because as mentioned above its cheaper and easier to convert

AGPO:

Yeah hats another thing I forgot. Before plastic regiment sets for most units you were stuck with buying blister after blister of metal models, which for any army got hugely expensive, but far more so for hordes than anything else

Pyro Stick:

I would say metal. GW obviously think plastic is worth more than metal so apart from being cheaper to buy i prefer to paint metal models.

Kera foehunter:

well some of the plastic are better but the new empier handgunner look like crap!!

but the new black orc are great

Canix:

Metal ,you can feel the quality, plastics are ok but should be cheaper IMO:P

Kera foehunter:

I dont think it cheeper by much.

Malificant:

plastic lends itself to being more dynamic and makes it easier to kitbash so my vote goes to plastic. plus it holds up better to rough handeling, holds paint better, and wont tip over the base if modeled front heavy.

Kera foehunter:

But look back at the first metal figures they are still around . PLastic who knows how long they will last.

Uzkul Werit:

Plastic definitely. Easier to convert and they don’t look trashy if you speed paint them.

Like my Hobbits.
